Taking a break from the Silent Hill rumours for a bit, it’s time to revisit the rumoured remake of The Last of Us. According to GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb (who also dropped the Silent Hill 2 remake rumour), we could apparently see The Last of Us remake this holiday season.

During a recent Kinda Funny Gamescast, Grubb mentioned TLOU while discussing upcoming releases in 2023. “I keep hearing that’s coming out this year. This holiday is what we keep hearing. I’m pretty confident about that, too.”

This lines up with a tweet from industry insider Tom Anderson back in January who stated that the remake would launch “the latter half of 2022.” The remake reportedly won’t be a simple increase in texture resolution, either. Per GameReactor, The Last of Us remake will be using the sequel’s game engine, and as such take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s power.

The remake is reportedly being developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment‘s Visual Arts Service Group, which includes developers from both internal and external studios within Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony has yet to respond to anything regarding the remake, though with the summer games season creeping closer, that can change quite quickly.

Meanwhile, those looking forward to the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us can reportedly expect the series next year. Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) is developing the series for HBO, which stars Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian”), Bella Ramsey (“Game of Thrones”) and Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate). Storm Reid, Anna TorvJeffrey Pierce, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neil will also star in the series.
