“Cruel Summer” Season 2 Will Feature a Brand New Mystery and Y2K Setting

Horror

Last year’s 90s-set thriller series “Cruel Summer” is returning for a second season on Freeform, and Deadline reports today that Season 2 will center on a brand new mystery.

Deadline notes in their report this afternoon, “The second season will feature a whole new cast, a new mystery and the show’s third showrunner.”

The plot for “Cruel Summer” Season 2, you ask?

“Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the second chapter follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.”

The new cast includes Sadie Stanley, Eloise Payet, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, Sean Blakemore, and Paul Adelstein.

Elle Triedman is the new showrunner for the second season.

Season One took place over three summers in the ’90s when a beautiful and popular teen goes missing, and a seemingly unrelated girl transforms from a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town, eventually becoming the most despised person in America.

The first season starred Olivia Holt, with Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee, Brooklyn Sudano and Sarah Drew.
