Singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia has announced a new album, her first in a dozen years. It’s titled Riderless Horse, and Steve Albini produced the project. It’s out July 22 via Temporary Residence Ltd. She’s shared one song from the record with the news, “Just Stay in Bed.” Check it out below.
In a statement about the project, Nastasia notes that Riderless Horse is her first record not produced by her partner Kennan Gudjonsson, who died by suicide in January 2020. “Riderless Horse documents the grief, but it also marks moments of empowerment and a real happiness in discovering my own capability,” she wrote.
Riderless Horse arrives more than a decade after its predecessor, 2010’s Outlaster. Prior to that, she’d joined Dirty Three drummer Jim White for You Follow Me in 2007. Nastasia made the out-of-print Outlaster, You Follow Me, and 2006’s On Leaving available online for the first time earlier this year. She’s currently on a spring tour with Mogwai, which concludes in San Diego near the end of April.
