A “Tipsy” Luann de Lesseps Gets Kicked Out Of A Piano Bar

Reality TV

The show must go on! Well, not always. We all know that Luann de Lesseps is a big time cabaret star. She will never let us forget it, talking about it incessantly on Real Housewives of New York. And anywhere else. But after an embarrassing divorce and trip to jail, it was nice that Lu found her calling and seems very happy doing it. Too bad that doesn’t mean everyone appreciates her efforts.

As reported by Page Six, it looks like Luann overstayed her welcome at the gay piano bar Townhouse and found herself kicked to the curb. According to a source, “She monopolized the piano, but that isn’t how it works; you sing [one song] and move on.” Witnesses at the bar say she already appeared sauced when she showed up and decided to do an impromptu concert. One source said she grabbed the mic and wouldn’t let the set end. Said the source, “Luann thought she was doing her act. She tried to sing [her own song] ‘Money Can’t Buy You Class,’ but they didn’t know it. They know standards.”

The source continued, “The piano player was like, ‘I don’t know the song,’ and she responded, ‘It’s a hit!’” But that didn’t stop Lu, who continued “belting out jumbled versions of songs.” Which apparently sucked so bad that “the crowd began booing her.” Lu’s ever elegant response was to lash out. She began “yelling at the gays, ‘You don’t know me! I’m a cabaret star!’” Ugh, Luann. WE KNOW. Some people just don’t care! Luann even yelled “f**k you” at the crowd when they booed her. And there’s a video to prove it! Eek! Not a good look. After she “yelled at the other patrons on the microphone,” she was then “thrown out for getting aggressive with the bar’s customers.”

But Luann is painting a different picture of the night’s events. A much softer one, we could say. Through an intermediary, Lu explained, “I was at rehearsals all day yesterday [for her upcoming cabaret show at  Feinstein’s/54 Below], then went to dinner with Broadway producers. We were in a celebratory mood and drinking champagne.”

After that, she was joined at the piano bar by Tony-winning producer and friend Jim Kierstead around 10:30 PM. She maintained that “there were a bunch of people singing, and it was a fun, boisterous crowd.” So Jim suggested she sing a few songs. Lu went on, “I got up and sang a few Broadway songs they were playing. I realize I was a little bit tipsy, but we were having fun, and it was getting late. I’d been rehearsing, and I was in the mood to sing a few songs. Then Jim said to me, ‘Lu, I have an early rehearsal,’ and then we left around midnight, 11:30 p.m.”

Her friend Jim is backing her up, naturally. According to him, “After a birthday party for a NY theatre personality, Luann and I went to the Townhouse for a nightcap. She was met by legions of her fans and was convinced to sing for them.” Did he say “legions of her fans?” LOL forever. He continued, “I was finally able to bring her home as I had an early morning Thursday for the workshop of a new musical. Of course she was the belle of the ball as usual.”

Obviously, this isn’t a great look for Lu, who has struggled with her actions when drinking in the past. She was famously arrested for a drunken rampage in Palm Beach in 2017. Lu has seemingly cleaned up her act after a bumpy road and even released a nonalcoholic wine last year. A friend of Lu says when it comes it staying sober, Luann has been “trying to stay healthy and takes things day by day.”
