Netflix announces the start of production on Outer Banks season 3 with two new cast photos. Outer Banks is a teen mystery-thriller series created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. The series follows a group of teens from the Outer Banks of North Carolina as they navigate the divide between the rich and the working class, called Kooks and Pogues respectively, and hunt for life-changing treasures. Outer Banks season 1 premiered on Netflix in 2020, followed by season 2 the next year. In December 2021, Netflix announced that Outer Banks would be renewed for season 3.
Outer Banks features a young cast as the Pogues, with Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kie, Jonathan Daviss as Pope Heyward, and Rudy Pankow as JJ. The group often faces off against the Kooks during their Goonie-style adventures, including Topper played by Austin North, Rafe Cameron played by Drew Starkey, and Ward Cameron played by Charles Esten. In addition to the series’ popularity on Netflix, Outer Banks season 1 was nominated for several awards, including a People’s Choice Award for Chase Stokes’ performance.
This week, Netflix announced (via Twitter) that Outer Banks season 3 has officially started production. The social media post announcing the news included two pictures of the Outer Banks cast surrounded by a tropical paradise with a caption as easy feeling as the photos. Outer Banks season 1 and season 2 capitalized on the series’ sun-filled adventure by releasing each season at the perfect time to match the changing weather. Season 1 was released in mid-April, and season 2 was released at the end of July. Perhaps this contributed in part to Outer Banks‘s immense popularity as each season reached Netflix’s top ten. From the looks of the new cast photos, Outer Banks season 3 seems geared to bring more summertime fun.
Fans of Outer Banks seem to be ecstatic to hear the news of season 3’s production start, with many sharing clips of their favorite characters and moments from Outer Banks seasons 1 and 2. These fans may be relieved that Outer Banks escaped Netflix’s habit of canceling even popular shows after just one or two seasons and that they won’t be left hanging after season 2 set up Outer Banks season 3. Although Netflix hasn’t announced the release date yet, with production starting now, it looks like Outer Banks season 3 could see another summer release.
