Netflix will attempt to discover the truth behind an iconic artist in its new docuseries, The Andy Warhol Diaries. The streaming platform has found great success with its limited documentary series in recent years, with titles like Tiger King, Don’t F**k with Cats, and the recent Kanye West documentary jeen-yuhs receiving critical acclaim and high viewership numbers. Netflix shows no signs of stopping with several other documentary projects coming out in the first half of 2022 alone, including The Andy Warhol Diaries.
A tweet from Netflix gives the first official synopsis for the docuseries, a poster, and a release date of March 9, 2022. American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy produces the series, which will use Andy Warhol’s diary entries and rare footage to “uncover the artist behind the art.” It will be the first documentary project about Warhol to premiere since 2008’s Andy Warhol’s People Factory; it also edges out a Jared Leto-led biopic announced in 2016 that remains unreleased. Check out the tweet below:
Andy Warhol’s name, work, and legacy is known the world over — but he remains, by design, a mystery.
Now, a new docuseries combines his diary entries with rare footage to uncover the artist behind the art.

The Andy Warhol Diaries covers the life of the eponymous artist, who rapidly became famous during the 1960s for his pop art that depicted everything from a Campbell’s soup can, to shoes, to other celebrities. Apart from his public declaration that he was gay, his religious beliefs, and a few other aspects, Warhol’s personality remained largely mysterious until his untimely passing in 1987. After an assassination attempt on his life in 1968, Warhol’s collaborator and friend Pat Hackett began keeping diary entries transcribing their conversations, which resulted in the posthumously published memoirs that inspired the Netflix series. The Andy Warhol Diaries is one of several 2022 Netflix projects by producer Murphy as part of a massive five-year deal with the platform that includes the upcoming Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and a pair of new American Horror Story spinoffs.
