Sex and the City star Kristin Davis will use the show as a teaching tool for her kids when they get older. Sex and the City became a cultural phenomenon when it first aired on HBO back in June 1998. The show almost received critical acclaim in its early seasons, helping to increase the clout and popularity of HBO as a network. Sex and the City followed four women (Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha) as they navigate life and love in New York City. The show ultimately ran for six seasons and 94 episodes total, and spawned two feature films. A sequel series, And Just Like That…, was launched on streaming platform HBO Max in December 2021.
After joining the cast of Melrose Place in 1995, Davis won the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City three years later, a part she played in every episode of the show, as well as both movie spinoffs in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The actress also returned to the character for the highly-anticipated And Just Like That… series, which caught up with Charlotte after the events of the Sex and the City films left her happily married with two young daughters. Most of the original Sex and the City cast also reprised their roles for the spinoff, apart from Kim Cattrall, who didn’t return as Samantha due to off-screen differences with her co-stars.
Now, speaking in an interview with People, Davis has explained how her children (son, 3 and daughter, 10) are still much too young to discuss Sex and the City with. The actress admitted that the idea of talking about it with them was “a little scary,” but that she planned to use it as a “teaching tool” for later in life, particularly for her daughter. “Now that she’s older and now that she’s getting exposed from her friends to all this stuff, even though I’m very controlling… I’m thinking I’m going to use it as a teaching tool… I don’t want her to feel embarrassed. I want her to talk to me. I’m a single mom, it’s super important… gotta keep them talking. You know, Sex and the City is kind of a good educational type thing… for later.”
TV shows often inform and inspire people, and can have a big influence on their lives as they grow, especially successful shows like Sex and the City.
