A fan has shared a video clip of a Red Dead Redemption 2 vulture getting hilariously trapped under the corpse of a dead man, highlighting that almost anything can happen in the game’s thriving open-world. Rockstar Games’ Western prequel to Red Dead Redemption was released in 2018, but still attracts players alongside its online counterpart, Red Dead Online.
The franchise has often been lauded for its accuracy when it comes to the West, especially in the case of wildlife and animals. It’s expected that historical genre games like the Red Dead series would be relatively faithful to what could actually happen in the time period and place, but RDR2 pushes boundaries to provide high levels of realism and immersion. A somewhat depressing example of this was seen when a player discovered that in-game deer can get their antlers tangled together, similar to real life. Red Dead Redemption 2’s accurate animal details are found throughout the game, and reward players with a very real-feeling simulation.
Reddit user kaitlynrabbit posted a video clip showcasing an odd occurrence where a Red Dead Redemption 2 turkey vulture became trapped under a corpse. In the clip, the turkey vulture can be seen flapping its wings, trying to get out from under the dead man. According to the user, they’re not responsible for the occurrence, instead merely coming across the strange phenomenon while playing. In the comments of their post, kaitlynrabbit mentions that when they tried to pick up the corpse to free the animal, they kicked the turkey vulture and killed it by accident.
Despite being a pretty gruesome scene to come across while playing Red Dead Redemption, the video of the turkey vulture trying to fly away is an amusing sight. Combining this with the fact that the player ended up accidentally killing the bird makes for a hilarious encounter. The game’s community has recently taken to sharing shameful moments in Red Dead Redemption, and kaitlynrabbit’s clip could well fall into that category. Many of these player moments are animal-related, and typically come from using the wrong button and accidentally causing harm to an animal.
Despite now being a few years old, Red Dead Redemption 2 and its large open-world continue to surprise and delight fans with their oddities, whether these occurrences are meant to be in the game or not. It’s likely that this particular turkey vulture suffered from a bug or glitch, unless the game does have weight to its bodies that could have potentially disallowed the bird’s movement. What exactly the story of this strange Red Dead Redemption encounter could be remains to be seen, but here’s to hoping that future Red Dead Redemption 2 animals will meet their fate more peacefully.
