Hi, thanks for sitting down with us today. I feel like this doesn’t get asked enough in interviews, so how are you doing today?
Thanks for asking – I’m doing great! I really like the holiday season, especially because I have the good fortune of spending so much time with my family. I just saw them recently in New York, and I loved having the chance to visit them. Also, I can’t wait for my song “daydreaming” to come out on December 17th. I have spent so much time working on it and am excited for people to hear it.
Tell us about your relationship with music. Do you turn to it more when you’re sad or down, or when you’re happy?
Honestly, I think that I listen to music in all facets of my life. I have so many different Spotify playlists for every occasion. If I had to pick one though, I think I turn to music more when I am sad. It feels really nice to listen to a song and know that someone out there wrote those lyrics and could relate to how I feel.
What themes seem to show up over and over in your songs if any? Why do you think that is?
I think that the theme of helpless romanticism continues to appear in my songs. I believe in love and the power of love. Even if things don’t go as planned, then at least we are still making memories now.
What have you found most difficult about releasing music?
The promotion process of releasing music is definitely the most difficult part. I love singing and writing music. I love those magical moments in the studio where everything comes together. However, the promotion process I have found is at times discouraging and time-consuming. I always can’t wait to get back to the music.
Tell us about what you’re working on right now!
I have been working on a number of projects with producer Axel Hejlsberg. We are writing a song that has a really beachy energy to it. I think that a lot of my songs have revolved around love, and I wanted to write something more laid back.
Do you have a favorite lyric or verse from your upcoming recent single?
“Can’t keep having all these crazy thoughts, I think I’ll close the door. You keep running ’round my tired mind, I can’t keep up anymore.” I love these couple of lines because the song is about not having the confidence to tell someone that you like them. These lyrics are sung in the bridge where I have conflicting emotions. These two lines represent final moments of doubt before the big hook where I find my confidence.
