Porsha Williams is currently entering an entirely new phase of her life. She’s hitting pause on her time on Real Housewives of Atlanta to pursue other projects, like her family-centric spinoff. She’s planning a wedding, maybe three, to Simon Guobadia after their whirlwind romance. She’s also writing a book, and pouring her entire heart and story out on the page. And in a recent interview with People about the memoir, she tells a harrowing story about her own experience with disgraced R&B superstar R. Kelly.
In case you don’t know, R. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking in September. Several victims have spoken up about being abused by the singer for years. Many of the victims have come out and told their stories in various ways, such as the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly that was an all-encompassing telling of the story. Now, Porsha Luther King has come out to tell her own.
In her memoir, Porsha talks about meeting a mutual friend of R. Kelly back in 2007, when she was 25 years old. She was considering a career in music and was flown out to Chicago to meet with him on a professional basis. She thought they were supposed to meet up in a recording studio but was taken to his home instead.
Porsha says that someone took him to R. Kelly’s bedroom and left her alone there for hours. The musician finally showed up and told her to take off her clothes. “I’ve already put myself in this position,” Porsha wrote. “This is what you’re supposed to do. You have to. There is no turning back.” She says she saw the musician two more times and also encountered some young women who appeared to be staying in his home. Porsha cut the ties when she woke up one day to a woman being beaten in another room. R. Kelly’s lawyers didn’t comment to People about the allegations.

The RHOA star says she kept her encounters with R. Kelly a secret for years, not even telling her friends or family. Particularly, it was hard for her to tell her mother about the situation as she didn’t want her mom to think she had let her down in raising her.
However, Porsha eventually told her mom and they talked it through, sharing experiences and recognizing the importance of speaking out to help other women. “There had been so many other instances where I had been abused by men that my mentality [at that time] was of an abused person and that it was okay for me to be treated like that,” Porsha said. She added that she also spoke to authorities about her situation to help in their investigation against the allegations facing R. Kelly. This whole story is absolutely heartbreaking, and Porsha is very brave for speaking about it so publicly.
