Death Stranding BB Unit Available To Own In New Replica

Movies

A life-sized BB Unit replica is now available for players who wish to brave the post-apocalyptic world of Death Stranding. In Hideo Kojima’s open-world action blockbuster, BBs, or “Bridge Babies,” are fetuses that are kept preserved in a special pod to help porters detect the otherwise invisible BTs that haunt what remains of the United States. They are seemingly trapped in the limbo between life and death. The process behind the Death Stranding BBs creation is as mysterious as it is unsettling, and the story behind one particular BB Unit serves as an emotional backdrop to the plot of Death Stranding.

This specific BB Unit would come into the possession of Sam Porter Bridges, the main protagonist of Death Stranding, who uses its abilities to travel across America on a mission to unite the country under the far-reaching Chiral Network. Despite other characters insisting that BBs are simply a tool, Sam grows genuinely fond of the child left in his care, and one of Death Stranding’s major gameplay mechanics is ensuring that BB remains calm in the face of the enemies and hazards Sam encounters during his deliveries. In return, BB will alert Sam to any BTs in his immediate vicinity through his backpack’s compass.

As reported by The Gamer, Death Stranding fans can now pre-order their very own life-sized replica of Sam’s BB Unit. Earlier today, Kojima Productions announced an updated version of its old Death Stranding Life-Sized BB Unit Pod – which now features a BB sculpt that more faithfully captures the baby’s look from the game and a weathered paint job to simulate the effects of a long delivery across the post-apocalyptic landscape of the United States. This BB replica also uses AAA batteries and has a built-in LED light that changes color, just like it does in the game when BTs are nearby. The current price of Kojima’s official Death Stranding BB Unit model is $145 USD, and orders are set to arrive sometime in late December.

When it was first released in 2019, Death Stranding earned a mixed reception from players, with some praising the game’s visuals and themes of connection while others bemoaned its slow pace and confusing plot. Earlier this year, Kojima released Death Stranding Director’s Cut, a PlayStation 5 remaster of the PS4 original that adds DualSense functionality and new content like a new Ruined Factory location and repayable boss battles. There is already word that Kojima is planning a Death Stranding sequel, with Norman Reedus recently confirming that he will reprise his role as Sam Porter Bridges if and when voice recordings begin.

While it probably won’t actually help fans deliver heavy packages in a post-apocalyptic world or fend off BTs, the Death Stranding BB Unit replica could be a fun collector’s item or possibly a great addition to that perfect Death Stranding cosplay. Death Stranding fans who pre-order now should be able to get their very own BB Unit just in time for the holidays.
