During a visit to their sibling’s island, an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player encountered a bug that caused them to suddenly float into the ceiling. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth game in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series, and the first game to feature a visiting mechanic that allows other ACNH players to visit each other’s islands. Players can open their islands for people to sell turnips, or for visitors to just explore and show off their hard work.
In order to visit someone’s island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players need to have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. After that, players just need to see the airport on their island. To visit someone locally within a certain distance in the real world, the player can select “via local play.” If players want to visit someone in another place, they can choose “via online play.”
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player, a Reddit user named Enbion, recently glitched into the ceiling while visiting their sibling’s island. As the two players ran around inside a home, one ran into a wall and the other somehow floated into the roof. At first, the player’s sibling looked as if they had entirely disappeared, but when they moved the camera slightly, their sibling was seen floating in the air. The player was able to run around in the air for a while and eventually fell into the stairs to get out of the bind they were in. The two players explained they had tried to recreate this incident a second time, but were unsuccessful in doing so.
Other Reddit users asked what Animal Crossing: New Horizons looked like from the perspective of the ceiling. The player described their sibling’s experience as running around in a void. They could look down into the room, but outside the room, it was just a black screen. The player further explained their sibling couldn’t go into other Animal Crossing: New Horizons rooms while stuck to the ceiling. Unfortunately, screenshots were not taken to showcase what the player saw on their end.
It seems this is the first time players have encountered this bug, which is perhaps due to the recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons update. In this case, the glitch is likely uncommon – and only time will tell whether it reappears again.
