Actress Nicola Coughlan has teased a dramatic finale to Bridgerton season 2. Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s most successful original series, and its next installment is currently in development. Coughlan, who plays the role of Penelope Featherington, is one of the series’ beloved lead characters. The Irish actress has received significant acclaim for her performance and quickly became a fan favorite. While no official release date has been set for set for Bridgerton season 2, it has been suggested that it will land on the streaming service at some point in 2022.
Now, in an interview with Radio Times, Coughlan has provided an update on the upcoming new episodes. While discussing her film schedule, the actress teased that Bridgerton‘s season 2 finale will be an emotion-packed one. Saying she was “on the way to set right now,” the actress revealed she was “shooting all this like, big, heavy, dramatic stuff for the finale.” While Coughlan didn’t provide any further details, it’s clear that the showrunners have something big planned for season 2’s story.
In shocking revelation for fans, Coughlan’s Penenlope Featherington was revealed to be Bridgerton’s mysterious Lady Whistledown at the conclusion of season 1, and based on her comments, it sounds like the drama is set to continue. Since the actress has confirmed her filming schedule ends in October, the series is likely to be close to post-production, meaning that a 2022 release is increasingly probable.
While Bridgerton season 1 focussed on the romantic exploits of Phoebe Dynevor’s Daphne Bridgerton and her relationship with Regé-Jean Page’s Duke of Hastings, season 2 is set to follow Daphne’s brother, Anthony Bridgerton and his new love interest, Kate Sharma. And if Coughlan’s promise of a “heavy” and “dramatic” finale is anything to go by, it’s clear that fans can expect plenty more mystery, drama, and romance in the upcoming episodes between these new characters.
