Stanley Tucci will portray Grammy-winning producer, Clive Davis, in the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Tucci is an American actor, producer, and writer whose career has spanned decades and over a hundred films. He is best known for his appearances in The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and Captain America: The First Avenger. He recently reprised his role as Dr. Abraham Erskine for Marvel’s What If…? and is set to star in The King’s Man alongside Ralph Fiennes and Gemma Arterton later this year.

As reported by Deadline, Tucci has joined the cast of the upcoming Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. The film, in development by Sony and TriStar Pictures, will follow the life and music of the iconic late singer. Naomi Ackie is set to portray Houston, while Tucci will appear alongside her in the role of music exec, Clive Davis. Davis, a lawyer-turned-music producer, was one of the first to recognize Houston’s extreme talent and, thus, played a monumental role in launching her career. The film is set to be released in December of 2022.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody certainly has potential with the strong cast and crew that is beginning to form. Tucci and Ackie make for solid, experienced leads, while Oscar-nominated biopic specialist, Anthony McCarten, promises a powerful script. Pat Houston has also been incorporated into the production team, representing the Houston estates and giving strong credibility to the film. The Houston biopic could very well be one of Sony’s biggest films of 2022 with its impressive cast and crew and its delve into the legacy of one of the most iconic female singers in history. Tucci’s addition to the cast further illustrates the high talent that is being considered for the film and highlights the high hopes being placed on I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
