Ms. Marvel is reportedly set to premiere on Disney+ in February. Introduced in Captain Marvel #14 in August 13, Kamala Khan became a breakout hit character and quickly found her way into various other forms of media including the animated series Marvel Rising and video games like Marvel’s Avengers. In 2019, it was officially announced that she would receive her own show on Disney+, with newcomer Iman Vellani cast as the lead character in 2020.
Ms. Marvel was originally set to premiere in 2021, with Marvel Studios Executive Vice President Victoria Alonso saying as recently as July 2021, that it would premiere alongside Hawkeye before the end of the year. However, Hawkeye was given an official premiere date of November 24, 2021, and a subsequent marketing campaign including a trailer and poster suggested Hawkeye would be the next MCU show after What If…? wraps in October. Hawkeye’s six-episode order meant it would finish just before the end of 2021, suggesting that Ms. Marvel had been delayed until 2022.
Now, it appears that Ms. Marvel will premiere in 2022, and will be the first new MCU project of the year. According to The Direct, move insider, Amit Chaudhari, is reporting that Disney has plans to release Ms. Marvel on Disney+ in February 2022. Disney has made no official announcement, and Chaudhari is waiting to hear official news from Disney or Marvel.
Depending on what week Disney decides to release Ms. Marvel, it would give a one to two-month gap between it and the Hawkeye finale. That is a similar amount of time between series that Marvel Studios gave between The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, and between Loki and What If…?. This also leaves January open to potentially allow The Book of Boba Fett to play as Disney+ flagship show for the month, with the series rumored to reportedly be premiering sometime in late December.
Where exactly in February Ms. Marvel could premiere is anyone’s guess, but there are some interesting clues and patterns Marvel has laid out that could indicate when the series would be ideal for them. Ms. Marvel is reportedly set to be six episodes, and if the series premiered on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, that would mean it would conclude on March 23, 2022, which is two days before the release date of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If they don’t want Ms. Marvel and the Doctor Strange sequel to overlap, premiering a week early on February 9, 2022, allows the series to wrap a week before the film opens. Ms. Marvel will serve as the kickoff to the 2022 MCU slate, which will include series like Moon Knight and She-Hulk and films like Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and The Marvels, where Kamala Khan will join forces with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau on the big screen.
