Deltarune: How Many More Chapters There Will Be | Screen Rant

Movies

The release of Deltarune Chapter 2 on PC means Undertale can finally return to the game’s spinoff universe. On top of continuing the story of Chapter 1Deltarune Chapter 2 also gives a hint at the future, revealing how many more Deltarune chapters will be released next.

The first chapter of Deltarune was shadow-dropped in 2018. While Undertale was a paid release that told a full story, Deltarune was a free game that contained just a few hours of content. Deltarune and Undertale creator Toby Fox told fans upfront that future chapters of Deltarune would be paid releases and that there would be no set schedule for each chapter’s launch.

It turned out Fox was more generous than expected, as Deltarune Chapter 2 is also free. Like the first, it only offers a few hours of gameplay and is just a small part of a larger story. Deltarune Chapter 2 also updates the original chapter if the player has it downloaded, however, with both of them launching from the same file. The altered version of this now-united game now has a chapter list, where players are able to select their starting point.

Deltarune Release Date Reveal

The chapter list for Deltarune has entries for seven chapters. The first is called “The Beginning,” and the second is called “A Cyber’s World,” but the rest are currently untitled. Fox has revealed Deltarune Chapters 3-5 will be released together, which will actually be a paid release. For now, it’s unclear if Chapter 6 and 7 will be separate releases or similarly bundled together. It’s also unclear how long it will take for the future chapters to be released; Deltarune Chapter 2 spent three years in development, and it’s unknown how much work the remaining chapters need.

The fact that there are seven chapters is interesting, as it feeds into a popular fan theory: The first two chapters of Deltarune take place on different days, and it’s established that Asriel is coming home from college to visit and will be returning one week from the day of the first chapter. With the entire seven-day story centered on Asriel’s visit, and with Asriel’s role in the spinoff and connection to the Dark World unclear, it’s possible that all of Deltarune is building up to a confrontation between the protagonist and Asriel, in the same manner as the true ending of Undertale.
