Whew! The first episode of the new season of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was A LOT – jam packed of drama especially the first five minutes. The season started with a bang showing the part we’ve all been waiting for – the infamous arrest of Jen Shah during filming. I, myself was on tenterhooks watching it all unfold including the real time genuine reactions of the cast members including Whitney Rose.
Jen was on a bus outside Heather Gay’s salon “Beauty Lab + Laser” about to embark on a cast trip when Jen got the call from her husband informing her that something was about to go down. She left the bus and was arrested moments later with her assistant Stuart Smith for fraud. Whitney sitting next to her has spoke about the drama that day with HollywoodLife giving her first hand account of the drama. In the episode we can see Jen get the call and quickly ask Whitney to take her mic off her.
Whitney said, “It was one of — I just went into pure shock…it was the most unexpected. It was terrifying because we didn’t know what was happening, but I just had never imagined that I would live through something like that. It seemed like it had come out of nowhere. In fact, I was telling someone earlier that it was so — it came out of left field so far that I thought it was a prank and that Jen hired strippers. Because none of the people’s outfits matched!”
Honestly, I remember the breaking news that day – and I was SHOCKED so yes, I could totally see how strippers turning up would have been much more foreseeable than the feds coming to arrest a co-star.

Jen told her fellow housewives Heather and Lisa Barlow she has to go and she swiftly exits the bus. You can then hear the sounds of sirens in the background as the other cast members look around in a state of confusion and shock. Whitney recalled, “we had Homeland Security, NYPD, Swat Team there, FBI…I didn’t even know what Homeland Security was, the HSI. I thought they were strippers and Jen was pulling a fast one. But once we realized and looked outside of the party bus and we saw the SWAT team and the armed vehicles, we were like, ‘Woah. What is happening?’ I can’t even put it into words. Just pure shock. That’s what I felt.” It sounds like something straight out of a movie!
Whitney said, “We didn’t have much information. All of the information was just coming in and once we decided to continue to hit the road, at that point in time, we only thought that Jen was at the hospital with Sharrieff [Shah] having some medical issues. When that article was sent to me, I gasped for air and I think you can see the terror on my face. Like wow, this is real,”
Just watching it happen on our screens was jaw dropping, I cannot imagine being there and seeing it with my own eyes. I can totally understand how Whitney was shaken up by the whole incident. One thing’s for sure, I cannot wait to see the rest of the season!
