American McGee, a game designer known in the industry for working on famous FPS titles and creating two fantastically abstract Alice in Wonderland games has posted a narrative outline for a possible third game, titled Alice: Asylum. McGee has shared a 150+ page pitch document with script packages and a narrative outline to shed some light on the highly anticipated third installment of the fan-favorite action-horror game series. Along with the 3000 Patreons who support him, the designer has also given fans the option to pitch in towards the project and offer him feedback as the project is a work in progress.
The first two Alice games by American McGee were released in 2000 and 2011. The games were aesthetic horror-action platformers with dark and unique takes on the Alice in the Wonderland series. With the tenth anniversary of Alice: Madness Returns this past June and the original title releasing a decade before, this could be the perfect time for another installment to become submerged in a full development cycle.
American Mcgee has been working on a third installment for the series and steadily releasing updates, content, and info on his Patreon since 2017. This weekend the designer released one of his biggest updates on the sequel yet – a full pitch package and story outline of Alice: Asylum, complete with artwork, script documents, and the entire story of the game from start to finish which was written by him and Alex Crowley. Given the heavy spoilers for the possible third game with the detailed outline, however, Mcgee notes that ”[t]he narrative contained within is still very much a Work In Progress” and is ”[t]he polishing phase for those things will come next as part of the Crowd Design process,” in which he will look forward to fan feedback for improvements.
While it is unsure what EA has planned for the Alice IP and whether they will choose to fund McGee or not due to Madness Returns not selling enough, the developer has made sure that fans are up to date on his work with this design bible, despite the development of the game currently not being guaranteed or possibly greenlit in the future. Patreon supporters have also shown full interest and support for almost 4 years, proving that there has been a high demand for a new abstract Alice title for nearly a decade.
Almost a decade later after the last installment, American Mcgee has shed some light on the sequel of one of the most anticipated action-adventure games ever made. Though fans might have to wait over the coming months to see what Mcgee and EA are possibly prepping behind the scenes, they can check out the new outline and hope that Alice will soon charm screens once more.
