Defeating the Witch of Urns in Death’s Door can be a challenging boss fight because of her multiple, varied attacks. There are many bosses players must fight in Death’s Door as they attempt to reap souls for the afterlife. Similar to the Dark Souls series, these fights tend to be the most difficult parts of gameplay. The Witch of Urns in Death’s Door has three main attack styles that grow deadlier as players get closer to defeating her.
Of her three attack styles, two are ranged and one is melee. The first attack has her throwing purple and green urns at players. In the second attack, she hops inside of her urn to try and stomp on the player. For the final attack, she is completely enveloped by the urn and spits out souls in a great big spiral. As players learn what to expect in each attack type, they can also learn to counter the Witch of Urns and successfully defeat her.
How to Combat the Witch of Urns’ Attacks in Death’s Door
Because each of the Witch of Urns’ attacks in Death’s Door works differently and evolves as she nears death, there are different strategies players can use to withstand each of the attacks. When they meet the Witch of Urns in Death’s Door, players should have both the flame attack and the bow. The bow should be a quicker attack, while the flame offers some bonus damage. Instead of a health bar, enemies in Death’s Door will grow pink cracks across their bodies until they are completely covered in the cracks and vanish.
Below, players can find a summary of the Witch of Urns’ attacks at every stage of her boss fight in Death’s Door, and an explanation for countering each.
The Urn Toss
Stage One: In the early stage of this fight, this attack is fairly easy to deal with. Avoid being struck by the urns as they are tossed around the battlefield. The Witch of Urns will pop in and out of the area to avoid being hit and throw from different angles. There are two types of urns that she throws. The purple ones will explode on contact with the ground, while the green ones will release a spirit. Players should reflect this spirit back at the Witch to defeat her faster.
Stage Two: At the beginning of the Urn Toss later in the fight, the Witch will now blow her top, sending out a few bonus urns prior to her throwing them.
The Urn Stomping
Stage One: Players will know the Witch of Urns is about to perform an Urn Stomping attack due to her animation of sliding across the battlefield, sweeping away the excess of smashed urns. When she jumps into the urn, players will have a chance to attack her. This attack isn’t so much of a stage as it is a point to break up the two main styles of fighting her. She’ll stomp about the room with her head sticking out before she completely submerges herself into the urn.
Stage Two: Added to the pink spirit balls she emits while transitioning, the Witch emits more spirit balls at the start of this attack when she sweeps across the battle arena.
The Urn Spiral
Stage One: Once the Witch has completely entered the urn and it has fallen on its side, players will need to watch out for the swirl of pink spirits she’ll spit up. As with the last attack, while she is transitioning into it, players should be able to get a couple of hits. During the attack, players should stay in one area of the battle arena and simply reflect the souls back at her. These will deal a lot more damage than the player’s standard hits. Players can also stick to one side of the urn and follow her spin to attack her directly.
Stage Two: Players will be able to see the pink cracks across the Witch’s body that indicate lowered health for enemies in Death’s Door. This will cause her to also shoot pink spirit balls for every transition into a new attack, leaving players with no time to hit her. Instead, players should focus on just reflecting the spirits back at her to deal the most damage.
Death’s Door is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
