Ahsoka star, Rosario Dawson, fans the flames of rumors surrounding the casting of Star Wars’ Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Disney+’s first live-action series taking place in a galaxy far, far away, The Mandalorian, has gone to admirable lengths to connect the films and animations. Season 2 introduced Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels’ Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Ahsoka Tano (Dawson), setting the latter’s upcoming spin-off series to implement even more characters.
In The Mandalorian, it’s revealed that Ahsoka is hunting Grand Admiral Thrawn—the main antagonist in seasons 3 and 4 of Rebels. In the series finale, Jedi Ezra Bridger calls upon a group of hyperspace-traveling purrgils to engulf Thrawn’s Star Destroyer, sending the Empire’s Seventh Fleet aimlessly into space with Ezra still aboard Thrawn’s ship. The epilogue takes place after Episode VI, with Ahsoka meeting up with other heroes to look for Ezra. Dave Filoni, who created Rebels, has since hinted that the episode might take place after Ashoka’s appearance in The Mandalorian. It seems likely that both Thrawn, Ezra, and other Rebels characters will appear in the Ahsoka spinoff. Reports have persisted that Mikkelsen will return as Thrawn and that Aladdin star, Mena Massoud, will play Ezra.
Rosario Dawson recently shared an Instagram post promoting the casting of Massoud and Mikkelsen in Ahsoka. @StarWarsNewsNet took a screenshot of Dawson’s story and shared it on Twitter. Check it out below:

While Dawson could just be the flames of excitement for her series and those casting rumors specifically, Star Wars has already set a precedent for casting voice actors to play their animated characters in live-action when Sackhoff brought Bo-Katan to The Mandalorian. Fans have been advocating for Mikkelsen to portray Thrawn as well. Both he and Massoud fit the respective roles physically, with the latter previously expressing interest in Ezra on social media. Many have theorized that Thrawn in the New Republic will position him as the big bad (Moff Gideon’s boss) of Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, or both.
It’s important to note that nothing regarding the casting of Ezra or Thrawn has been confirmed. However, with Ahsoka on the hunt for Thrawn, either because he’s a threat to the galaxy and/or her friend, a showdown between her and Thrawn seems inevitable. Following his fantastic work on Rebels, Mikkelsen has proven himself the perfect person to play Thrawn, and it’d make less sense for Star Wars to not continue working with him. As for Massoud, recent fan art more than makes a convincing argument for him as Ezra. Whether or not they appear in Ahsoka remains to be seen, but Dawson—who was also once the popular choice to play Ahsoka—seems to like the idea.
