Developer Mojang just rolled out Minecraft Update 1.17.10, which ushers in improvements for the previous Caves & Cliffs: Part I content and adds a select number of features from the future release of Caves & Cliffs: Part II. Minecraft’s Caves & Cliffs: Part I update launched on June 8, for the Bedrock and Java editions across all platforms.

The smaller of the two Caves & Cliffs offerings, the update’s first part still gives players access to a whole host of previously unseen content. New additions range from new animals and blocks to extra crafting items and plant life. In terms of creatures, Minecraft users can now encounter goats, glow squid, and amphibious animals known as axolotl. The new plants include azalea bushes, glow lichens, and spore blossoms. Minecraft’s latest crafting items especially changed the flow of things, thanks to unlocks such as lightning rods and spyglass. Now, with the advent of Update 1.17.10, fans can get a taste of what Mojang has in store for Caves & Cliffs: Part II.

Today, July 13, Mojang deployed Minecraft Patch 1.17.10, which introduces several gameplay improvements to Caves & Cliffs: Part I. Thanks to the Experimental Gameplay option, the latest update additionally allows users to tinker with Part II features. Gameplay fixes specifically tackle stability adjustments, a cobweb-induced fall damage glitch, and several other smaller and larger inconveniences. New features for Caves & Cliffs‘ first part notably include candles and potted azaleas, the former of which is craftable with honeycomb and string. And combining with dye on crafting gird unlocks colored candles. Meanwhile, “experimental features” from Part II can be turned on via the world creation screen, allowing players to explore new cave biomes – Lush and Dripstone. The work-in-progress content also enables Great Horn, Skulk Sensor, previously unseen surface biomes, and sees the world height go up to “320 blocks and down to -64 blocks.”

It’s worth remembering that the Caves & Cliffs: Part II features are still a work-in-progress at Mojang. As such, glitches may indeed adversely affect the experience, but it’s neat that users can try out new content ahead of the official release.

For now, though, the Caves & Cliffs: Part II update for Minecraft lacks launch date details. An FAQ page on the developer’s website notes the content should rollout sometime later this year, however. When Mojang plans to share more remains a mystery at present.
