While the stand-out feature in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life is undoubtedly the chance for players to sail and fight alongside the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow, there are plenty of interesting new side quests for players to complete offering new and exciting rewards. One of the new side quests pirates can unlock fairly early in the first Tall Tale of Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life is called Raising the Dead. In this side quest, players can unearth a skeletal pirate called Poor Dougie. He will seek the player’s help to find his treasure, a Medallion that is needed to complete another side quest.

The Poor Dougie side quest coincides with the side quest called Powerful Thirst. Neither of these quests is very long, and players receive gold and commendations for finishing them. Completing these quests is also a requirement for unlocking the playable “Yo Ho” sea shanty at the end of all five Tall Tales. To get Poor Dougie’s Medallion, players will need to dig up the pirate from under some docks, find his treasure and bring it to him, get Poor Dougie’s Key, and open the Chest. Interacting with certain elements in Sailor’s Grave can help pinpoint the exact locations for both Poor Dougie and his treasure. Here’s how to get Poor Dougie’s Medallion in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life.
How to Unlock Poor Dougie’s Chest in Sea of Thieves
Before pirates can find Poor Dougie’s Chest in Sea of Thieves, they will need to find Poor Dougie himself. He is located in Sailor’s Grave, the new shipwrecked town, under the docks near the lighthouse. There is a small path leading under the dock and a trail of gold coins that lead directly to Poor Dougie. At the end of the trail, they will see a mound of dirt signifying treasures below. They will need a shovel to dig at this spot and eventually come across Poor Dougie. He won’t speak until the lantern beside him has been lit.
Poor Dougie will regale the pirate who finds him with the tale of his crew’s betrayal and ask for help locating his treasure. There is a puzzle players can solve at the split shipwreck to find the treasure easily, but it is also not very far from Poor Dougie himself.
To solve the puzzle, pirates should head to the split shipwreck and go to the side of the ship that leads to a broken cave and hull. They will need to follow the wooden path that leads to a door and open it. Inside, they will see a skeleton wearing pajamas and sitting on a bed. They can use a pulley to reveal a second skeleton in the room, this one holding a magnifying glass.
At this point, players will need to head up the stairs in the room and light the three lanterns they find. The light will allow the player to move the skeleton’s hand and magnifying glass and reveal the location of Poor Dougie’s Treasure.
If pirates don’t mind doing a little digging to find the exact spot, they can also head toward the tavern. The treasure can be found on the left side of the path while facing the tavern. Whichever way players choose to find the treasure, they will need to dig it up with their shovel and bring it back to Poor Dougie under the docks. Poor Dougie will give players the key hanging around his neck, which can be used to open the Chest. Inside, players will find Dougie’s Medallion.
Dougie’s Medallion is used during the Powerful Thirst quest in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life. To complete it, pirates should find the skeletons playing chess near the tavern and use their lantern to light the candle on the table. Talking to these skeletons reveals that they want a drink, preferably Captain Bones’ Special Recipe. At the end of the quest, players can place Dougie’s Medallion on the chess table to add the Cursed Captain’s head to another skeleton’s body, play a game of chess, and access a vault of gold.
Sea of Thieves is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
