New photos from the set of Knives Out 2 show off Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc and his new Mediterranean look. The sequel to the 2019 smash hit remains a secretive affair – little is known about the plot of Knives Out 2 save for its Grecian setting. What is clear is that director and writer Rian Johnson has assembled another eclectic and star-studded cast for Craig’s detective to investigate. In addition to the return of Craig, Knives Out 2 will feature Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jessica Henwick.
When it was first announced that Netflix would be producing Knives Out 2 and 3, production was said to be starting in June. Johnson confirmed as much with a photo from Knives Out 2‘s set confirming the start of filming yesterday. The streamer has yet to announce a release date for the highly anticipated sequel, but it’s clear the project is of high priority for Netflix.
Now, set photos have come out via Films to Films on Twitter showing off Craig’s look as Benoit Blanc in the sequel, teasing the summery location of the new film. Craig can be seen wearing a salmon and tan linen outfit with an ascot around his neck. The James Bond actor is also masked up as Hollywood productions continue to take health and safety precautions due to the pandemic. Check out the photo below:
With Knives Out 2‘s exciting new location, it seems Johnson is going in a different direction for the sequel’s aesthetic. 2019’s Knives Out had a distinctly autumn feel thanks to its New England location and meticulous costuming done for the film. Knives Out 2 looks to be no different and it will be interesting to see how Johnson and co. bring the new location to life. Unfortunately, though, that’s about all that can be gleaned from the set photos about the mysterious film.
The plot of Knives Out 2 remains under wraps and seeing as it won’t be bringing back the Thrombey family, the mystery could take on any number of forms. It’s possible that Benoit Blanc will see himself wrapped up in a new mystery while on vacation, emulating Agatha Christie once again by having the detective investigate a group of vacationers à la some of the short stories in the author’s collection, Murder in Paradise. Whatever direction Knives Out 2 goes in, it’s sure to be a thrilling one thanks to the change in location and the stacked cast of Hollywood veterans and exciting newcomers. How they will play off each other will be key to the sequel thanks to the fire-y chemistry of the original cast.
