Ronald Greene was a 49 year old, Monroe, LA citizen, who was killed in an incident involving police. Ronald Greene led police on a high speed chase, before ultimately surrendering. The issue begins, when this report was emphatically disproven, thanks to body cam footage, captured by one of the arresting officers, themselves.

Darrell Kelley is a R&B Singer/Songwriter, who has now exclusively devoted his work to cases of police misconduct, with suggested racial overtones. This is one of the more disturbing real life cases that Kelley has tackled, thus far. Ronald Greene was beaten, shot with a taser gun, and pepper sprayed by police. His wounds, which were photographed, are quite frankly, difficult to look at. This case takes the term, police brutality, to a literal and devastating extreme.
This case is still an ongoing investigation, in light of the recent footage that has surfaced. What led to Greene, fleeing from police, is still unknown. You can clearly hear him saying, “I’m sorry,” I was scared,” repeatedly. The manner in which Greene is detained and more accurately, manhandled, is far removed from the procedural tactics. You can instantly feel, something is wrong.
For his part, Darrell Kelley opts for a soulful rendering of the event. He cuts to the heart, of the underlying sadness and loss that surrounds this tragedy. Ronald Greene had just gone into remission for cancer. When you learn this fact, you realize that this man had just overcome a potential death sentence, only to have his life cut short, by senselessness and violence. There are so many ways this could have ended, including, being prevented, altogether. But, here we are.
The details of the Ronald Greene case are still being sorted out. Why does a 50 year old man, flee from police? Greene was a married man, so it’s unlikely he felt he had nothing to lose. Why was he so afraid? Would he have any reason to fear the Monroe Police Department? So many unanswered questions, which is even more obfuscating, due to the footage that exists, but still somehow doesn’t paint the full picture. And most importantly, will we ever truly know, what happened on that fateful evening in Louisiana?

Darrell Kelley has brought to our attention, a case that doesn’t seem to have received an abundance of national media coverage. It’s a stark reminder, that street violence, including incidents that involve the ones who are designated to minimize and neutralize it, is thriving. Music is a powerful medium, and a decisive and influential form of expression. It might not seem to amount to much, solely on its own, but “Ronald Greene” is dealing in facts, and offering the great equalizer of education. No longer do we have to ignore the screams in places like the deep south, or wherever injustice is occurring. In fact, pray that they no longer have a reason to scream at all.
