Riverdale actor, Lochlyn Munro, says he is lucky to be a part of Peacemaker‘s cast. HBO Max’s upcoming spin-off, Peacemaker revolves around John Cena’s titular vigilante-cum-antihero, who has been spun-off from James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad movie. Gunn helmed The Suicide Squad as a soft reboot to David Ayer’s 2016 film during his firing from Guardians of the Galaxy, and now he is continuing his association with DC through a subversive show centered on one of the characters from his own film. At the moment, plot details for Peacemaker are fairly scant, but Cena claims that his character in the new show is a “douchey“ version of Captain America, “a f-cked-up superhero” who will do anything to establish peace, including kill.

While the storyline for Peacemaker may not yet be clear, the cast has been well rounded out. Besides Cena, Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland will also reprise their The Suicide Squad roles as John Economos and Emilia Harcourt. Raven Home‘s actor, Nhut Le, will star as Judomaster, while Bridgerton‘s Freddie Stroma has replaced Chris Conrad to portray Adrian Chase/ Vigilante in the show. Some other regulars include Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, and Chukwudi Iwuji, whereas Annie Chang, Christopher Heyerdahl, Elizabeth Ludlow, and Rizwan Manji have been finalized for supporting roles. In December, Riverdale‘s Lochlyn Munro was also announced for the show, and he has since opened up about his experience working with Gunn.
On Wednesday, during a conversation about his forthcoming film, Initiation, with Comicbook, Munro revealed what’s it like to work with Gunn and Cena on Peacemaker. He called the Guardians of the Galaxy director a creative genius and complemented his humour, and handling of the production. Munro also said that he finds himself lucky to be working with Gunn, who serves as the showrunner and director for Peacemaker. Read what Munro said about being part of the series below:
“Honestly, he’s awesome,” Munro said of Gunn. “I’m so lucky to be [part of this cast]. I just wrapped shooting one of our episodes, about three hours ago. We’ve been doing night shoots all week. You know what, he’s so creative — he’s got this energy to him. He comes up with ideas really quickly, and I love his humor. I love that he can amalgamate these worlds, and this show — oh my gosh, I think people are really going to dig this show. John’s Cena as Peacemaker is awesome. Honestly, it’s so much fun for me to go to work on that show, because just to watch James do his thing is really inspiring and just so creative. I love it, man. I love it. I really think people are really going to dig that show.
Currently, Munro’s role in Peacemaker is being kept a secret. But given that the show has already commenced filming with a 2022 release date in view, it won’t be surprising if fans learn about his character through some official or unofficial set photos. For now, it isn’t just Munro who is having a gala time on the sets working with Gunn. But Cena himself is also enjoying his camaraderie with Gunn. Their bond is such that Gunn allowed Cena to take his Peacemaker costume home so he could sleep in it at night. In fact, Gunn even pranked Cena on his birthday by making him eat a lot of empanadas while he was still recuperating from eating those 31 empanadas for The Suicide Squad.
With Munro’s statement, it’s abundantly clear that Peacemaker actors are wholly content with the efforts that Gunn is putting into his Peacemaker TV show. They trust the seasoned director’s creative vision, and they have much faith in the way he is adapting the comics for a wider audience. This off-screen satisfaction bodes well for the show, as it hints towards quality viewing and a fun watch for all Peacemaker fans. Gunn’s inspirations for Peacemaker were decidedly unique, and as is evident by the confidence of the actors, they are contributing towards the show’s edgy appeal and overall aesthetic in a way that was intended.
