It’s a good idea to brace yourself, when you learn of Sarantos. Perusing his bio will result in an initially dizzying state of disbelief, brimming with sensationalism and likely, embellishment. He pontificates himself as a Singer/Songwriter, Author, Radio Show Host, and of course, Musician. He is also caustic at certain points, describing himself as a part time spy, and an alien from Mars. At his core, Sarantos seems like a fidgety dreamer, with a slightly overactive imagination.

Sarantos newest single, entitled, “I Never Catch The Train,” essentially tells the story of being a moment or two behind, fulfillment. Sarantos is a self-professed introvert, who prefers his own company, but understands the importance of relationships. He is a talented singer, that is still finding his way a bit, as a Songwriter. He is a highly disciplined individual, who offers weekly releases, in the form of song, videos, and literature. He obviously doesn’t sit around, waiting for the stork to deliver his muse, which is something of a attribute and a detriment.
Listening to “I Never Catch The Train,” and subsequently learning more about Sarantos’ backstory, you observe a lingering sense of sadness. He has dealt with the loss of a parent to cancer, as well as health issues of his own. You get the impression that his plethora of artistic projects, helps provide a distraction to his dolor. In fact, maintaining and pursuing positive mental health, is an underlying component in “I Never Catch The Train.” Sarantos is a good lyricist, and he is able to weave subtle minarets of symbolism throughout his works.
Once upon a time/things just made sense/then life happened/and you left/you left. This opening lyric would indicate that part of the track’s underlying themes is abandonment issues. There is a melancholy to “I Never Catch The Train,” that is distracted by its warm delivery. If you listen a little deeper, it can sound as though Sarantos is reaching for the hand of someone who cares. It’s almost as if he feels perpetually discarded and forgotten, and can’t help but observe what seems to be a trend in his life.
In the video for “I Never Catch The Train,” we see a shot of Sarantos filming on his cellphone. We then see several couples in various states of expressing affection. The lyrics are plastered over the screen as the song plays. Along with interspersed images of Sarantos, himself, we see despondent looking individuals in isolation. The video depicts the overarching element of social and intimate disenfranchisement that Sarantos appears to appreciate on a deep level.

“I Never Catch The Train” is effective YouTube fare. Sarantos is lucid of the audience he intends to reach with this music, and the often cold and detached reality they face, daily. Musically, this may not be his most finely polished offering, but it touches the right emotional nerve. Sarantos is a product of modern industrialization, and he embraces what he can, and tries to make sense of the rest. Maybe that light at the end of the tunnel, is exactly the train he’s been waiting for.
