Spoilers for Heroes Reborn: Siege Society and Heroes Reborn: Young Squadron ahead!
Nighthawk is Marvel’s version of Batman, and in two recently released Heroes Reborn one-shots, readers learn that he is far more ruthless than Bruce Wayne ever could be. In Heroes Reborn: Siege Society and Heroes Reborn: Young Squadron, the chilling depths of Nighthawk’s savagery is exposed!
Created to be a riff on Batman, Nighthawk is a member of the Squadron Supreme, a team consisting entirely of Justice League pastiches, such as Hyperion, a riff on Superman. There have been multiple versions of Nighthawk and the Squadron over the years, and in the new reality of Heroes Reborn, the Squadron is Earth’s primary superhero team as the Avengers never existed. This new Squadron is also the most brutal version yet, and no member may be more so than Nighthawk, and readers can see this brutality on display in two vastly different Heroes Reborn titles, showcasing how deep it runs.

In Heroes Reborn: Siege Society #1 by Cody Ziglar and Paco Medina, Baron Zemo’s Siege Society storms one of the Squadron’s European bases, determined to curb their expansionist attempts on the continent. The Society fights their way through Nighthawk’s team, with Zemo confident he has the upper hand; however, this is not the case, as Nighthawk designed the fortress with attacks such as Zemo’s in mind. Furthermore, it is revealed that Nighthawk deliberately lured Zemo out. Zemo’s attack led to casualties on both sides, and while he says the losses will haunt him, he moves on nonetheless, and kills Zemo. Likewise, in Heroes Reborn: Young Squadron by Jim Zub and Steven Cummings, Deadpool encourages the young heroes to critically look at Nighthawk, and the rest of the Squadron’s, violent actions. The team realizes that Nighthawk and the Squadron are not to be idolized—especially in light of Nighthawk’s treatment of Miles Morales.
In these two one-shots, readers see Nighthawk go places Bruce Wayne never would. For instance, Batman has a rigid code against killing, but Nighthawk has nothing like that, and brutally kills Zemo. Furthermore, Batman would never set a trap that could potentially lead to someone terms of civilian casualties, but it is a decision Batman would never make. And while Batman may not have the best relationship with his sidekicks at times, he would never think of treating Robin the way Nighthawk approaches Miles Morales.
The world of Heroes Reborn, under the influence of the militaristic Squadron Supreme, is a harsh and unforgiving world, and Nighthawk embodies it more than the rest. Nighthawk is more savage than Batman could ever be.
