Sara Gore is the current host of the Emmy-winning show, Open House, which explores New York’s most unique and lavish homes in the area. She is a pillar in the New York scene, as she also co-hosts the popular lifestyle show New York Live! Coming from a culinary background, Sara did not expect to host Open House for 13 seasons, and she talked to us about her unique journey to get where she is now.
In an exclusive interview, Sara shared that she was an actress in upstate New York all growing up. She also has had a passion for cooking since she was 10 years old, saying that she usually found herself in between both the culinary and entertainment world. She said, “I went back and forth from cooking to acting, and I did it all through my teens, through college, and into my 20s.” After moving to New York City, she went through a series of jobs to make ends meet.

Sara started her own cooking business, worked as a personal chef, and taught cooking lessons. This led her to an amazing opportunity to cook for the critically acclaimed chef, Jean-Georges. Eventually, she took a hiatus from the culinary world in order to perform in an off-Broadway play. It was there that she fortuitously met a hosting agent who became her agent in the following years.
Sara found that she was able to blend her love of cooking and acting together by “auditioning for food-related hosting gigs, and it really just fit right away.” One of her more prominent roles was in a cooking series for General Mills called Dinner Made Easy. She also did a pilot for Food Network that was not picked up, but it led her to audition for a startup that came to be LXTV, the producers of Open House.
Sara grew with the LXTV company as it expanded, and even launched her own show. Sara launched the series First Look, now hosted by Johnny Bananas, which still on air. She left First Look in order to do a real estate show that became Open House and Open House NYC. Sara said she “always had an interest in and a passion” for design and real estate. She found her calling in this show, which explores several interesting and lavish homes each episode.
Sara said that she loves the show because it inspires her, calling it “part inspiration and part aspiration.” It gives viewers amazing design and style ideas, showing the latest trends on the market and serving as “television comfort food.” When asked about a favorite house, Sara responded, “I’ve been in thousands of homes over the years, so it’s like picking a favorite child.” In between her many careers, she is raising three kids with her husband, Matthew Miele. From a personal chef to a lifestyle and real estate show host, Sara has rediscovered New York City, started a family and says she has never looked back.
