Broadway’s Masked Singer!: Everything To Know About The Show

Movies

Fans of The Masked Singer should know that a spinoff called Broadway’s Masked Singer is streaming on YouTube this week, with recordings available for added entertainment. Instead of random celebrities, it features Broadway stars who bring their A-game. Fans who want to vote may sign on and do so after watching 58 minutes of singing and deliberating. The show is inspired by the popular television show, The Masked Singer. Broadway’s Masked Singer is raising money for charity, to support actors and stage crews in need.

The Broadway edition is aiming to entertain for the purpose of raising money for theater-themed organizations. Jackie Cox, Christopher Metzger-Timson, Kevin Metzger-Timson, Natalie Weiss, Abby DePhillips, Felicia Fitzpatrick, and Ben Cameron serve as the judges. After the judges view punny comments and make their educated guesses, the viewers determine who stays and who goes. Eliminated contestants then reveal their actual identities and talk about how much they love performing on the stage.

Much like the TV show, costumes are donned which are animal-themed, with the exception of Potato Singer. Then, recordings of their songs are played. They up their pun game and create unforgettable visuals. A singer in a shark outfit, for example, jokingly threatened to get the “Baby Shark” song stuck in people’s heads. Then, the shark decided to show mercy on viewers. In another case, a bee-themed singer recreates “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, raising questions about how a non-swimming insect can survive underwater.

All of the funds raised during each stream will go to Broadway Cares, a charity that helps those living with AIDS, in addition to supporting actors and replenishing theater funds. It’s a good cause, especially since the pandemic has forcibly shuttered Broadway and London, England’s West End. Even though the theaters are opening up slowly again, crew members that have been sick or are at risk of developing the virus still need help. Streams of performances allow theater fans to relive the watching experience, as sitting in an enclosed theater may still prove hazardous to one’s health. It’s all about spectacular performances and helping others. While shows like Hamilton (which is based on a real person from history) are broadcast on Disney+, the loss of income from live performances definitely has a negative impact.

If viewers want to catch the streams, they will need to tune into the Broadway Cares YouTube channel at 8pm EST or watch the recorded streams a few days after they air. Watching as soon as possible is recommended, so as not to miss any of the excitement. Everyone is working remotely for safety reasons. Some of the judges end up having lagging problems or pet interruptions. In some cases, they may even show off the pets on their laps. The cute animals witness the performances, which are recorded digitally. Special effects are used to enhance performances and themes.

It’s true that Broadway and reality TV have overlapped before. However, viewers new to the format may find the dances bewildering. The recorded streams feature some glorious puns, such as “Orca-stra.” Others have a singer in a flamingo costume running around a green park while singing, “I’m Like A Bird”.

Viewers determine who goes and who stays in each performance. That means that they have all the power when it comes to determining who is going to win. The orca and chicken are contenders. Since this is for charity, those eliminated aren’t too broken up about having to reveal themselves. They want to have a good time and entertain the viewers. Fans who watch Broadway’s version of The Masked Singer are bound to have fun. Those who want to donate should go to Broadwaycares.org.
