Summer will hold many exciting events for Pokémon GO fans this year. So far, developer Niantic has announced many exciting upcoming events. This includes the upcoming Luminous Legends events that will introduce Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yvetal, and May Community Day happening on May 15th. However, there is another exciting announcement for Pokémon GO fans. Pokémon GO Fest will return as a global event for 2021, and it could be bigger than previous celebrations.
Last year, Pokémon GO Fest was made available as a global event for the first time. Millions of fans came together to tackle Team GO Rocket, capture different Pokémon species, and benefit from event-specific Pokémon GO bonuses like XP, Stardust, and Candy boosts. The event will span 2 days, taking place on the weekend of July 17th to 18th. Currently, it isn’t known what might be featured in the event, but it is likely information will be confirmed via a developer blog post in the coming weeks.

According to developer Niantic, this year’s Pokémon GO Fest could be bigger than past years. This is because the event will be happening during two important milestones for the Pokémon series. 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. It also happens to be the 5th anniversary of the Pokémon GO mobile game. Pokémon GO Fest will take place just weeks after Pokémon GO’s birthday on the 6th of July. With such big achievements to celebrate, it is possible Pokémon GO Fest could include special bonuses for fans of the series if they choose to participate.
Pokémon GO Fest Celebration Bonuses Could Include Wearable Items
There are many ways the Pokémon GO Fest event could reward players for participating in the special celebration. Pokémon GO players could earn special anniversary gear like themed hats, shirts, or accessories for their in-game avatar. It is also possible that special, anniversary-themed Pokémon could be available to catch on the days of the event. Pokémon GO has released many themed Pokémon throughout the years, including special editions of Pikachu wearing different hats, Eevee with a flower crown, and many other adorable companions.
It is also possible Pokémon GO players may have opportunities to capture Legendary Pokémon recently added during other events, or that new Mega Evolutions could spawn more frequently in Raids. Players will also be able to use the new Rain Lure releasing in May to attract Bug, Water, and Electric-type Pokémon while they are out taking on gyms, or spinning Pokéstops. Hopefully, Pokémon GO Fest will offer Pokémon GO fans plenty of new ways to engage with other players as everyone celebrates these exciting milestones together.
