The release date for Netflix’s The Kissing Booth 3 has finally been revealed. Based on the novels by Beth Reekles, the first film premiered in 2018, which was followed by a sequel a couple of years later. It’s clear that this teen romance franchise hit the spot for those seeking a sappy love story infused with some top class entertainment, as the third film of the series was green-lit (and was shot back-to-back with the second film in 2019) and has now been given a specific release date.
Joey King will be reprising her role as lovesick teen Elle, along with Joel Courtney who plays her childhood best friend Lee and Jacob Elordi who plays her boyfriend, Noah (who also happens to be Lee’s popular older brother). Vince Marcello will also return as director. The second movie saw Noah going off to college as he and Elle try to survive a long-distance relationship and Lee getting a girlfriend (portrayed by Meganne Young) who is not the biggest fan of his best friend. The film ends with Elle having to make the tough decision of joining her beau, Noah, at Harvard, or fulfilling her promise to Lee and accompanying him to UC Berkeley. But this is not the only unanswered question that the third installment must clarify. Luckily, it looks like the wait for those answers won’t be that much longer.

Netflix recently released a sizzle reel of the various original movies that will be coming to the platform this summer, in which King and Courtney unveiled the release date for the upcoming The Kissing Booth 3 in a subtle and crafty manner. As Courtney states that he “ate 11 churros“, King emphasizes “ate 11“, indicating to the date 8/11. The Kissing Booth 3 will be released August 11th.
So what can we expect from the final chapter of Elle, Noah and Lee’s story? Whilst the first two films were based on Reekles’ books, there is no third novel in the series, although Reekles did release a novella called The Kissing Booth: Road Trip! which could possibly serve to inspire aspects of the third film. As Netflix hones in on their marketing, a first promotional still was released which featured the gang having fun during summer break, meaning it can be expected for the film to be set mainly during summer. This setting would be ample opportunity for the friends to get into mischief and, inevitably, run into conflicts.
Along with The Kissing Booth 3, others titles are expecting a release during the summer due to cinemas reopening, not to mention the variety of films that Netflix and other streaming platforms have in store. While the franchise has performed decently overall, it has been scrutinized by critics, so it will be interesting to see how The Kissing Booth 3 stands up against its opponents this summer.
