Filmmaker Steve Merlo hopes to recapture the gritty feel of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with upcoming fan film The Sawyer Massacre, a feature length project.
Merlo explains, “The Sawyer Massacre is a feature length fan film and unofficial prequel to the iconic horror film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We have already raised funds to make this film but our goal is to raise enough to shoot it in Texas where it should be filmed!”
In order to raise those funds, Merlo and the team are crowd-funding The Sawyer Massacre through Indiegogo, hoping to raise $16,000 in order to get the film made and released.
In The Sawyer Massacre, “While recovering from the loss of someone close, Jimmy’s friends bring him to the Texas countryside to escape city life. In need of supplies for their cabin, they head to a gas station where they are directed to an isolated farmhouse. The property is not as it seems. They find themselves hunted by the cannibalistic psychopath known as Leatherface.”
“It is our intent not to copy what the original did, but use it as influence in a stylistic way. Our film will have more blood and kills but will still be very subtle in its delivery,” Merlo notes.
