Candiace Dillard Says Monique Samuels’ Exit Was A “Load Off All Of Us” And Real Housewives Of Potomac Season 5 Was “Very Dark”

Reality TV

The Real Housewives of Potomac had its first big cast shakeup with the exit of Monique Samuels after four seasons on the show.  Karen Huger, Robyn Dixon, Gizelle Bryant, and Ashley Darby have been the core four since the premiere season.  Candiace Dillard joined in Season 3 and, after taking some newbie heat from Karen, fit into the group quite well.  She brought the drama, but also solidified friendships overall.

The support she got from Robyn and Gizelle after her physical altercation with Monique helped her finish out the season.  But Candiace was still visibly upset at the reunion, and questioned Monique’s accountability and remorse for the incident.  The fallout from that event really dampened the mood at the reunion.  While Karen called for healing within the group, Monique chose to take the easy route and quit the show.

According to Candiace, Monique’s exit is the best outcome for the rest of the housewives.  She told Entertainment Tonight that season 6 signals a fresh start.

“I would hope that we could come together as a group and find a way to healthily and happily move forward and make room for new drama,” Candiace said, “I’m so over season 5 and talking about season 5 and what happened in season 5. I would want a season 6 to be a new chapter for our group.”

It didn’t seem like a resolution between Candiace and Monique would happen.  At the reunion, Candiace revealed she was still in therapy because of the trauma.  And apparently, the weight of the incident affected everyone involved with the show.  Perhaps it was for the best that Monique left.

Candiace explained, “I definitely think that that announcement was a load off of all of us.  Season 5 was dark. It was very heavy and it took on a life of its own, right? It became bigger than all of us, even, I’m close to several of our producers and it affected everybody, not just the cast, but everyone.”

Candiace concluded, “It was hard and it was very dark, so, anytime you have a dark cloud, when that cloud is removed, it obviously lifts the morale of the group and allows a space for us to move forward. And it’s just up to us to take that path and move forward. And I would hope that if we’re coming back that that’s what we’re able to do.”
