Preview of GIFTY 1 from FOUNDATION

M.I.A. is auctioning off a piece of digital art as a non-fungible token (NFT). The still image is titled “GIFTY 1” and it’s part of a larger art series called “NFT GARAGE DANCE.” “GIFTY 1,” which a press release describes as a still image from a GIF collection “bookending her 25-year tenure as a digital artist,” will be available to purchase through Foundation for a period of 24 hours beginning Thursday, April 8 at 4 p.m. Eastern.

The release of “GIFTY 1” will be followed by another NFT drop called “KALA COYN,” which was created in 1996.

In a statement, M.I.A. wrote, “KALA COYN and the GARAGE DANCE series is a living, breathing, psycho-spectral canvas that crystalizes this moment in time for me. Visually, it’s a mind f*ck and embodies everything I’ve loved about the digital art arena. It’s only now that the appropriate gallery for my work finally exists.”
