An image recently leaked that showcases what fans believe to be COD: Warzone‘s lost map update. The leak comes after a series of speculations regarding future Warzone updates, including maps and features that might come to the game. The popular battle royale could be bringing a new map to the table that some believe will be a revamped version of Warzone’s Verdansk with a 1980s look. The recent leak shows what Warzone devs could have been developing as the next map for the game, but was either scrapped or delayed for an unknown reason. Players are getting restless after skydiving into Verdansk match after match, and other battle royales, like Apex Legends and PUBG, have delivered a steady stream of unique locales for players to explore. When Warzone will deliver a new map is currently unknown.

Battle royale maps are an essential component of the game. They provide interesting locations and points of interest for players to land in that keep each match engaging. However, after a while, a map can get boring and, although Verdansk is a fan-favorite, there are things Warzone’s next setting will have to include to keep the game fresh. While players wait for an official update on the next Warzone map, leakers have brought a potential candidate for that new, exciting locale to light.
According to Reddit user Greenbatborg, a Call of Duty leaker leaked what was supposed to be the next Warzone map. In a now deleted tweet shared on the Reddit forum, a picture of that map was revealed. The location includes several interesting spots. Most notable among them are the Chemical Labs, the Mines, and the Zoo, as well as the addition of a Sanatorium across from a lake. The map does look a bit rough, especially the edges surrounding Mines and Ski Slopes. Battle Royale maps should have realistic transitions between points of interest, and the diverse range of colors and locations, while intriguing, give it a cartoonish look. Perhaps this map layout was Warzone’s attempt at incorporating procedural generation in a battle royale map, which some claim will be the future of the game. The very grid-like structure of the map could have allowed for a randomized structure to generate with each match, but that is pure speculation.
The map itself is an extremely interesting one, with fewer buildings than Verdansk, but a wider range of different kinds of locations to explore. The diverse colors, from snowy white to a chemical red, would make each game very different as players could differentiate landing zones with each match. There is currently no information regarding the reasoning for Warzone devs to delay the release of the map, and it is very possible that it was scrapped altogether. An update including this map would have been welcomed, but there are also more features Warzone should add to stay relevant.
While there is no telling whether the lost map will ever see the light of day, players can still imagine what it would have been like to ride ski slopes and meet elephants in Warzone. While the new map could have been a breath of fresh air, there was probably a good reason Warzone devs decided to leave it out.
