Avni Vir Vineet is a couple of twins and their father, out of India. Their current single, “Can I Go Now” is their third release, after two previous efforts that performed well on the European Indie Charts. The twins are fraternal, and at 14 years old, they bring a youthful perspective into their music, that is certainly unique to them. Their father, an exceptional talent in his own right, brings a sense of stability to the group. Their decidedly unique dynamic, will be a talking point, going forward.

The group’s moniker is literally the surname of each individual member. Avni and Vir are the twins and Vineet, their father. Vineet has been quoted as saying that he feels the experience “will help his daughter & son understand the nuances of developing a global sound, and the work that goes into a successful music career.” All three of the members handle the vocal duties, and on “Can I Go Now,” Avni handles lead vocals, as Vir backs her up. As a result, the song captures  the youthful insouciance and carefree energy of being 14.

If you know what you’re in for with “Can I Go Now,” you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised. If you don’t know what you’re in for, you’ll be pleasantly puzzled. You will hear the talent in AVV, undoubtedly, but you also wonder exactly who this is being marketed to. The track and the performance itself is certainly one of quality, but the sound and gravitas could be alienating to those outside of AVV’s surrounding demographic. Nevertheless, you can’t deny the glowing wholesomeness and sincerity of “Can I Go Now.”

You probably already know by now that “Can I Go Now” is going to get stuck in your head. It’s just a melodic enough hook, coupled with a slightly monotone delivery, to swim inside your memory banks at a leisurely pace. The lyrics sound like first hand, adolescent issues, as well they should. It is refreshing to hear AVV embrace their youth, instead of trying to overshadow it with embellishment. This is music for kids, made by kids, which in theory is most appropriate.

This is straightforward pop music. It’s  Ear candy, if you will, designed to spotlight the personalities of the performers/composers. “Can I Go Now,” certainly succeeds in endearing us to AVV. Their sound will make you want to learn more about them, and when you do, they become all the more intriguing. Considering they have released so little material to this point, it will make it easy to catch up on what they’ve done, and anticipate what they do next.

With their Father, guiding their careers, you feel secure in knowing they are in good hands. It would be interesting to learn more about their backstory, and when they first expressed an interest in pursuing music. It could be that music is in their genealogy, and that it was just a matter of time, until they became involved in it. In a world that is seemingly void of much unfettered innocence, and lighthearted fun, AVV is like a bright candle in a dust storm. The light they shine, may not be the most visible, but one day, we may need it to find our way.
