“Ask About Me” by Kiron Rasheed

“Ask About Me” by Kiron Rasheed

Music, News, Reality TV

Kiron Rasheed has released his follow up to October’s “Ba Lee Dat,” entitled, “Ask About Me.” Rasheed is touted as being a Musician, Emcee, Producer, Singer/Songwriter, Entrepreneur,  and Philanthropist. That’s quite the resume, and with so many hats, it might seem like he’s covering his face. In Kiron’s case, though, he is the real deal. Funny enough, one of the first things you notice about him, is his humility.

On “Ask About Me,” we find Kiron at his most conscientious. Life is complex/and must be viewed through context, should earn him a Pulitzer ribbon, at the very least.  Lyrically, Kiron doesn’t relent, nor does he go out of his way to assault. It’s clear that his intentions are to edify and not to self-promote. His maturity is well represented, and his wisdom shines through, like the sun in the midst of a thunderstorm.

“Ask About Me” is driven by many things, but the percussion might be chief among them. A lot of rock or even pop acts would sell a vital organ, to get the snare sound on this track. Speaking of Rock, I was virtually incredulous, when I heard the spicy strum of distortion, near the opening of “Ask About Me.” An electric guitar is one of the most featured elements of this piece, and the result is nothing short of euphoric. It’s something you don’t see coming, but ends up being a glorious surprise.

The chorus is carried by Leah Rich, who nearly steals the scene. Her vocal range, and ensuing presence/confident attitude is what sets the ideal tone for “Ask About Me.” To feature sung and rap verses, by turn in Hip Hop/Pop genres, has become commonplace. So while this practice isn’t particularly groundbreaking, it is highly effective in this instance. You can hear this chorus popping up in a variety of places, and used for any number of promotional purposes.

Real ones will go to the end of the Earth/fake ones will show what they are actually worth. There are a litany of classic and powerful lines, from Kiron, throughout this track. His honesty is a beacon of hope for all of us, who have grown disillusioned with the posturing and insincerity. Once again, this traces back to his maturity, and shows that a responsible, adult presence in entertainment and art, might just be the first steps towards rehabilitating it. In fact, that step might just be the most urgent.

Kiron Rasheed has a lot to take pride in, with “Ask About Me.” There are so many takeaway elements, and a fresh, multifaceted approach by Rasheed as an artist and producer. This is the type of Hip Hop I would like to hear a more vast representation of; affable, principled, and truthful. As previously mentioned, the performance by Rich, is phenomenal, and she is one to watch, going forward. Go out of your way to check out “Ask About Me,” and ask why, later.
