It’s a flawless victory for Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat marketing campaign.
The studio took a big swing by premiering a red band trailer for their new Mortal Kombat adaptation and hit a grand slam. The trailer has clocked 116M views in its first week, becoming the biggest red band trailer of all-time, besting the 4-day mark of Logan and Deadpool 2 and continuing to do so, wrote Deadline Thursday evening.
Adds the site: “The trailer for the Simon McQuoid-directed feature trended in 52 total markets on YouTube and 28 total markets on Twitter, registering a 98% Positive-to-Neutral social sentiment rating.”
This is huge and also telling, indicating New Line Cinema most likely has a hit on their hands, which could mean more R-rated Mortal Kombat films in the future. Even more so, a successful R-rated release only opens the door for others.
We’re finally going to get some crazy fatalities when Mortal Kombat opens in theaters and on HBO Max this coming April 16.
