Run the Jewels and GZA were invoked in Washington, D.C. this week during impeachment proceedings against former president Donald Trump. Rep. Stacey Plaskett, a Democrat representing the U.S. Virgin Islands, pulled lines from Run the Jewels’ “Early” and GZA’s “Breaker, Breaker” in her remarks on Wednesday (February 10). She confirmed her nods to the artists in a tweet. See her remarks below.
Reacting to Plaskett’s speech on Twitter, Run the Jewels’ el-P joked, “i can’t say i didn’t see it coming. ok i didn’t see it coming.” “Early” appears on 2014’s Run the Jewels 2, while “Breaker, Breaker” is from GZA’s 1999 album Beneath the Surface.
