Real Housewives Of New York Alum Barbara Kavovit Is Running For Mayor Of New York City

Barbara Kavovit Real Housewives Of New York

Well, she said she was thinking about it and now it’s a thing! Congrats to former Real Housewives of New York star Barbara Kavovit for joining the New York City mayoral race. Viewers probably remember Babs from her brief venture on RHONY. She is an incredibly accomplished businesswoman, but basically none of that was highlighted during her tenure on the show. Unfortunately much of her screen time was devoted to being yelled at by Ramona Singer. So, nothing new there.

Back in September, Barbara announced she was “strongly considering” running for office. Her motivation was driven by feeling “unsafe on the street” and wanted to “rebuild a safer and more inclusive New York City”. I’m guessing her stint on RHONY gave her a thick skin. After spending time with Luann de Lesseps, Ramona, and Dorinda Medley’s mouth, she’s probably invincible at this point. While this won’t be an easy journey, according to Barbara, she’s the woman to do it.

It’s always nice to see the glass ceiling continuing to break, but Babs isn’t new to that. She is the CEO of Evergreen Construction, a company she founded when she was 21. Barbara has the brains for business, but it doesn’t necessarily mean she has the brains for politics. And being on reality television doesn’t exactly qualify someone to hold office, but why should that stop anyone at this point. Barbara has strong feelings about crime in her city and she appears ready to take it on. She made the announcement via her Instagram.

In a pin-striped suit with an image of Manhattan behind her, Barbara has officially thrown her hat into the candidacy for mayor of NYC. Her caption read, “I’m running for Mayor of New York City because the city that I love, the city of opportunity where I built my business and my dreams, is in a state of crisis. I may not be a politician, but I’m a Bronx-born New Yorker who isn’t fearful of the hard work and tough decisions that lay ahead. It will take a builder to rebuild #NYC, and I’m the woman to do it. Click the link in bio and join me in this fight.”

Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Margaret Josephs commented on Babs’ post with, “Yea!!! I wish I lived in NYC so I could vote! But I will be campaigning for you!!” Real Housewives of Dallas star D’Andra Simmons threw in some heart emojis. Gosh, I’m flabbergasted there were no words of support from Dorinda, Luann, or Ramona. Shocking, I tell you.

Barbara’s campaign website states “the novel coronavirus pandemic has exposed inequality in the city and that ‘our infrastructure is crumbling’ and ‘crime is spiraling out of control’”. No word on whether or not Barbara has plans to limit occupancy at clam bakes in the future. She is entering a rather large field of candidates for the gig in the upcoming November 2021 election. Democratic and Republican primaries will take place in June. These leaves her plenty of time to get her spray tan techniques under control, because Babs getting that stuff on white furniture lives rent free in my mind forever.

Sheesh, it would be interesting to have a Bravolebrity as mayor of NYC. Could you imagine the bragging rights of that one? Luann would be all trying to feel Jovani back into her good graces. Ramona would suddenly develop a tolerance for mom jeans. Look out Andrew Yang, Barbara is coming for you.
