There was a time when James Wan‘s new horror movie Malignant was being released into theaters last August, but that was of course a very different time. Last we heard, Warner Bros/New Line will be bringing Wan’s latest horror movie to theaters and HBO Max sometime this year, and today we’ve been provided with a new release date courtesy of Wan himself.
Malignant will release on September 10, 2021!
Wan posted on Instagram tonight, “I’m super excited for this film. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come.”
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but Malignant has been rated “R” for:
“Strong horror violence, gruesome images, and for language.”
Described as an original thriller not based on any existing IP, we’re told that the film is going to be part of the Giallo sub-genre. Malignant‘s plot is being kept under wraps.
The cast includes Maddie Hasson, Mckenna Grace, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel, George Young, Ingrid Bisu, Michole Briana White and Jacqueline McKenzie.
Wan directed off a screenplay by Akela Cooper and JT Petty with story by Wan and Ingrid Bisu.
