Marvel’s Newest Wolverine Returns To Fight His Deadliest Villain

Movies

Warning! Spoilers for Wolverine #8 below.

Omega Red is after Wolverine, but before the deadly villain gets to the longtime X-Man, he’ll have to deal with Honey Badger first. In new previews for the upcoming Wolverine #8, Gabby Kinney will be returning to take on Omega Red as he tries to hunt down Logan.

Gabby first appeared in All-New Wolverine #2 and was co-created by Tom Taylor, David Lopez, David Navarrot. Originally one of the clones of Wolverine clone Laura Kinney, Gabby, who has two giant bone claws, eventually joined the new All-New Wolverine under the moniker Honey Badger, while later being known as Scout. Gabby and Laura’s heartfelt adventures were a joy to read – but once the X-Men was rebooted under Jonathan Hickman, Gabby was sidelined, only making a small appearance in the new stories.

Marvel released a new preview for Wolverine #8 by Ben Percy, Adam Kubert, and Viktor Bogdanovic where Omega Red’s quest to track down Wolverine takes him to Krakoa. The villain is one of Wolverine’s most feared opponents as his ability to release Death Spores is extremely deadly. However, before he reaches Logan, it appears Gabby will try her hand at taking down Omega Red. In the pages, his hunt is interrupted by Gabby, who tells him Wolverine knew he was coming. After falling into a trap, Omega Red tells her to release him or “there will be hell to pay.” Gabby proceeds to unsheath her claws and tells him “you shouldn’t threaten children psycho… even if they behave badly.”

Gabby manages to use her bone claws to slice a part of Omega Red’s hair off. The pages show Honey Badger’s relentless attitude and unwavering strength in the face of extreme danger. It’s safe to assume that she’s not the only one on Omega Red’s trail, as it’s highly doubtful Wolverine informed just her to take on one of his deadliest opponents.

Seeing Gabby back is a welcome sight. All-New Wolverine was one of the best comics Marvel has released in years and part of that was due to Honey Badger and Laura’s relationship. Hopefully, with Laura returning from the Vault later next year, the pair can team-up against and create some new adventures together. For now, it’s just refreshing to see Gabby back in action.
