Wonder Woman 1984 is hitting PVOD in the UK on January 13. The sequel to the hit 2017 movie has been highly anticipated for a little while now. Early reviews praised Diana’s 80s adventure for its overall optimistic atmosphere. For many in North America, it will be the perfect upbeat film to enjoy on Christmas Day as 2020 comes to a close.
It’s not hard to see why moviegoers have been looking forward to Wonder Woman 1984. The previous film was very positively received, and for a lot of viewers, it was the first great film in the DCEU. Gal Gadot has cemented herself as the character similar to how Robert Downey Jr. made Iron Man his own. Simply put, Wonder Woman was a special watch for a good number of people. Wonder Woman 1984 is upping the ante by introducing Maxwell Lord and Cheetah, and this will be the first time Wonder Woman tangles with her arch-nemesis in a live-action project. While some reviews have said there’s too much in the movie, it has been largely a wave of positive reception. Wonder Woman 1984 was given the Certified Fresh badge on Rotten Tomatoes, and although its rating has dropped a few points since, it’s still the third highest-rated DCEU movie.

Wonder Woman 1984 is flying to PVOD on January 13 (via Deadline) in the UK. The film has already been released in theaters there, although not all locations are open. According to Deadline, the film will be available via PVOD for a 48-hour rental while it continues to play in theaters.
It’s not surprising Wonder Woman 1984 will be available for renting in the UK soon after being in theaters. In North America, the film will launch right away through HBO Max as well as in theaters on December 25. Sadly, HBO Max isn’t available in the UK region. With all that in mind, Warner Bros. did release the opening scene of Wonder Woman 1984, so fans can check that out while they wait for the full film’s release.
It’s an unprecedented time for movies, especially notable blockbusters like Wonder Woman 1984. A film of its caliber being available for renting after just four weeks in the theaters would be nothing short of shocking, even just last year. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is launching its entire catalog of 2021 theatrical releases on HBO Max in addition to the normal theater viewing. That means the next DCEU film after Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, will be available to watch from home as well as the cinema. With Wonder Woman 1984 being one of the most anticipated films of 2020, it’s performance on PVOD will be the first indication of how future blockbusters will do with a similar release plan.
