A new limited research storyline is available in Pokémon GO, and the reward for completing all four sets of missions is a Shiny Celebi. This new limited research storyline is in celebration of the new movie Pokémon The Movie: Coco in which the film’s titular character is accompanied by a Shiny Celebi. While Zarude would have been a more fitting Pokémon to feature during this event, Shiny Celebi is a pretty good alternative.
Shiny Pokémon are usually quite rare, and Shiny Mythical Pokémon even more so. Mythical Pokémon, like Celebi, are usually encountered in the mainline games once offering an intense battle. These Pokémon are sometimes Shiny huntable by soft-resetting which can take days, weeks, or even months. However, Pokémon GO players are given a free opportunity to catch a Shiny Celebi by completing a handful of challenges, no battling required.
How To Find Shiny Celebi In Pokémon GO
Jesse and James of Team Rocket have once again started to appear in Pokémon GO due to the presence of Shiny Celebi, and they are the player’s main means of finding Shiny Celebi. The duo will ask the player to perform four sets of tasks, each set increasing in difficulty, in an attempt to get the player to lead them to Shiny Celebi. These tasks will become available to players once they log-in to Pokémon GO during the event. The four sets of challenges and their rewards are as follows:
Set 1:

Transfer 10 Pokémon – Ultra Balls x10

Catch 10 Grass-type Pokémon – Nuzleaf Encounter

Evolve 3 Grass-type Pokémon – Cottonee Encounter
Set 2:
Play with your buddy 10 times – Poffin x1
Take a snapshot of a Grass-type Pokémon – Combee Encounter
Give your buddy 10 treats – Cherubi Encounter
Set 3:
Defeat Jessie or James 4 times – Max Revive x5
Make 5 Great Curveball Throws – Hoothoot Encounter
Hatch 3 Eggs – Whimsicott Encounter
Set 4:
Claim Reward! – 500 XP
Claim Reward! - Oddish Encounter
Claim Reward! – Foongus Encounter
Once all 12 challenges are completed players will be rewarded with a Shiny Celebi encounter. While the last three challenges don’t require the player to do anything except claiming the rewards, they must be claimed for the Shiny Celebi encounter to become available. This is a 100% Shiny encounter meaning players won’t be able to find a regular Celebi via this storyline. It is also a guaranteed capture meaning the Celebi will not run away and will be available until the player manages to catch it.
