Terminator 3’s John Connor Actor Would Love to Return for a Sequel

Movies

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines star Nick Stahl would love to return for another movie in the Terminator franchise. The third film in the Terminator series came out in 2003 from director Jonathan Mostow. Arnold Schwarzenegger returned as a T-800 in the sequel, while Stahl played the future leader of the Resistance, John Connor. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines got mixed reviews, but did well enough at the box office for Warner Bros. to make another three sequels.

In John Cameron’s original The Terminator, the story revolved around Kyle Reese traveling to the past to rescue Sarah Connor after Skynet sends a T-800 back in time to prevent John Connor’s birth. John was a huge part of the original film’s plot but didn’t actually appear until Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991. In that film, the adult John Connor was played by Michael Edwards, with the majority of the film focusing on Edward Furlong’s younger version of the character. Christian Bale and Jason Clarke also took on the role in Terminator sequels, but Stahl wants another crack at the character.

Stahl recently sat down with Comicbook to talk about his upcoming thriller Hunter Hunter. When asked about returning to the Terminator franchise, Stahl explained that he hasn’t heard anything, but would love to return for another movie as John Connor. Stahl’s full quote from his interview can be read below:

“No. Short answer. I haven’t heard anything about a new Terminator movie. I don’t know, man. I did the one film and I was there, so, yeah. Wish I had a more exciting answer for you, but that’s it. I would jump at the opportunity. I love those movies, I grew up watching Terminator movies and was just thrilled to be a part of that role in that franchise. So, yeah, that would be something I would love to do.”

Nick Stahl as John Connor in Terminator 3

While it sounds like Stahl would definitely be down for reprising his role in the Terminator series, that seems incredibly unlikely to happen. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machine ends with Judgement Day starting as John and his future wife Kate Brewster (Claire Danes) are trapped in a fallout shelter. This storyline continued in Terminator Salvation, only John and Kate Connor were both recast with Christian Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard. Kate Connor hasn’t been a part of the Terminator movies since then, with Terminator Genisys and Terminator: Dark Fate muddling the franchise’s timeline.

Most fans wouldn’t hate seeing Stahl return for a future Terminator movie, but if Warner Bros. were to continue with his storyline, they would likely bring back Bale. Stahl has continued to act in several movies and TV shows since Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, but Bale is simply a bigger star at the moment. That being said, it doesn’t look like anybody will be playing John Connor in the near future. After the critical and financial disappointment of Terminator: Dark Fate, it seems that Warner Bros. might finally be done with the Terminator franchise.
