Marvel’s Hawkeye: Every MCU Show Reveal From The Set Photos

Movies

Here’s everything Hawkeye set photos have revealed about the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show. Marvel Studios announced in 2019 that Jeremy Renner would return as Clint Barton in a starring role thanks to Disney+. The Hawkeye series will largely take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but it will also shed more light on Clint’s past. Those details confirmed by Marvel Studios account for just about everything fans knew about the series for some time, in addition to the series introducing Kate Bishop.

That has started to change now that filming on Hawkeye has begun. The main cast for the series is now known and dozens of set photos made their way online. One of the biggest additions to Hawkeye‘s cast is Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. She’s reprising her role after Black Widow and is currently the biggest returning MCU character outside of Clint. Hawkeye‘s cast also includes Vera Farmiga as Kate Bishop’s mom, Tony Dalton as Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Echo, Zahn McClarnon as Echo’s dad, and Fra Fee and Clown. It is also confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld will play Kate Bishop after months of conflicting rumors about the possibility.

Filming has only just started on Hawkeye, but the flurry of set photos have provided fans with much more information about the Phase 4 Disney+ series. The bulk of the behind-the-scenes leaks focus on Clint Barton and Kate Bishop at various stages of their team-up. Through it all, the set photos paint a better picture of what viewers can expect to see in Hawkeye.

Hailee Steinfeld Is Kate Bishop

The start of filming on Hawkeye is what finally brought confirmation that Hailee Steinfeld is Kate Bishop. Steinfeld was the only actress reported by reliable sources to be up for the job, but it was believed that her involvement with Apple+’s Dickinson could stop the deal from happening. Neither Marvel nor Steinfeld confirmed that they were joining forces, although the newest MCU star did tease her potential casting just a few days before production began. Once filming began, the not-so-secret casting was confirmed to be true. Steinfeld has been spotted multiple times on set, but it was while she filmed a scene with Renner in a subway that brought the first look at her.

Kate Bishop’s Superhero Costume

Set photos from Hawkeye have also already provided a look at Kate Bishop’s superhero costume or at least a version of it. Steinfeld was once again spotted on set wearing Kate’s usual purple suit. It isn’t identical to the comics, but the similarities are there at the base. The images showed Steinfeld in a purple long-sleeved shirt, fully equipped with a bow, a quiver full of arrows, and a belt with interchangeable arrowheads. Since the suit differs from the comics and even Hawkeye concept art for Kate, there is an expectation that the costume will continue to evolve as the show progresses.

Clint Barton Has Hearing Aid

A major development in Clint Barton’s MCU story will come in Hawkeye as set photos indicate that he will use a hearing aid. In the comics, Hawkeye has a history of being partially deaf that goes back decades, but it was during Matt Fraction’s time with the character that it became more prominent. Clint losing his hearing has been tied to abuse by his father in the source material at times, while a conflict with Clown disabled Clint once again. It isn’t known how exactly his hearing loss will happen in the MCU, but fans now know that it will be part of Hawkeye‘s story.

Hawkeye Takes Place Around 2025

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in The Avengers

It was already known that Hawkeye will primarily take place after Avengers: Endgame, but set photos provided a more accurate estimation of how much time has passed. Signage for the 2025 Chinese New Year can be seen in one set of images. This initially pointed to Hawkeye taking place in 2025, as the Chinese New Year is in late January of 2025, but other set photos point to the show taking place just before. People dressed as Santa suggest the show will be taking place around Christmas, with the 2025 signs indicating that part of Hawkeye is set in December 2024. Depending on how much time passes during the show, the MCU could reach 2025 during these events.

The Barton Children Return

Since Hawkeye is the first MCU story primarily focused on Clint Barton, it will be the place where several aspects of the character can be explored in greater lengths. This includes Clint’s responsibility as a father to three kids. Set photos showed all of them filming scenes with Renner, confirming their return for the series. It is not known where Laura Barton (Linda Cardellini) is during the family gathering. But viewers at least know that Clint’s fatherly duties will be explored in addition to his superhero career.

Lucky the Pizza Dog

A character confirmation that pleased many during the early batch of Hawkeye set photos was Lucky the Pizza Dog. The fan-favorite pup was featured in concept art for the series long ago, but the one-eyed Golden Retriever has been spotted on set. Lucky’s original name is Arrow, but that was before Clint helped save the dog after it was nearly killed by its previous owners. He formed a small connection with the dog before then when he fed it a piece of pizza. After nursing Arrow back to full strength, Clint kept him around, naming him Lucky instead, with the Pizza Dog tag coming from the good boy’s appreciation of a New York slice.

Hawkeye’s Classic Muscle Car Will Appear

Some additional set photos from Hawkeye tease another aspect of Matt Fraction’s run, Clint’s old muscle car. During Fraction’s time with Hawkeye, he put Clint in a 70s era Challenger. The car was teased in concept art for the series but now it has been spotted on set as well. In the comics, the vehicle allowed for a sweeping car chase to take place, so its appearance in Hawkeye could help bring a similar event to Disney+.

The deeper comic references with Hawkeye will continue with what Kate Bishop wears in the series. Not only have set photos shown her in a version of her superhero suit, but a perfect recreation of another outfit will be included. Steinfeld was spotted wearing a shirt for ”Лайка” or “Laika” the Russian space dog, with the design ripped straight out the pages of Marvel Comics.

Tracksuit Draculas Will Appear

The confirmation of the “Tracksuit Draculas” appearing in Hawkeye also came through set photos. Another pull from Fraction’s run with the character, an actor resembling the mafia’s leader Ivan Banionis was spotted on set. Moving vans for Trust a Bro Moving Company were also seen, which mark another sign that the tracksuit gang will appear. This group played a major role in the comics, as they owned Clint’s apartment building and came into conflict with Clint when they tried to raise the rent.

The Return of SHIELD?

Another detail that came from Hawkeye‘s set photos might be the return of SHEILD. During a scene with Kate Bishop, Barton was spotted holding a quiver that prominently featured the SHIELD logo on it. This could point to the return of the once-powerful secret organization in the MCU, or it might just be a leftover accessory from his time with the organization before it fell. In either case, a reference to SHIELD’s past or future will be featured in Hawkeye.
