A new Godzilla video shows the King of the Monsters giving parenting tips. The original Godzilla movie came out in 1954, offering fans 66 years’ worth of giant kaiju action. There have been over 30 Godzilla movies since the franchise started, with the series still going strong today. While there were plenty of critically acclaimed Godzilla movies, even the most die-hard fans will admit that the series got a little goofy over the years.
The original Godzilla is praised for being a metaphor for the consequences of atomic war, mainly due to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but later films focused less on underlying themes and more on giant monster battles. Many of the older Godzilla movies seem campy when compared to the more recent massive summer blockbusters, and the Shōwa era from 1954-1975 had some of the lowest-rated movies in the franchise. Minilla, sometimes referred to as Minya in American dubs, was first introduced in Son of Godzilla in 1967. This film, as well as All Monsters Attack, were purposefully made for younger audiences, making for some of the most laughable moments in the series.
Now, Nerdist has used some of these moments to create a hilarious video called “Godzilla’s Guide to Parenting.” The video uses clips from Son of Godzilla and All Monsters Attack to illustrate various parenting tips on physical play, socialization norms, structure, and discipline. “Godzilla’s Guide to Parenting” can be seen in full below:
Since Minilla is one of the more infamous Godzilla characters, it’s highly unlikely fans will get to see him on the big screen again. The new Godzilla movies that are part of Warner Bros. MonsterVerse and even the Japanese-produced Shin Godzilla were far too serious to include a character like Minilla. Godzilla vs. Kong is expected to reintroduce many of Godzilla’s iconic foes, including MechaGodzilla, but fans shouldn’t expect to see Minilla on that list. Toho is also supposedly making more Godzilla spin-offs focused on other kaiju, so it’s possible that an updated Minilla could show up in one of these films.
The Godzilla films have introduced many iconic characters, but Minilla is one of the more polarizing monsters. Many people love him because of nostalgic reasons, but others find him to be obnoxious. The video above is clearly meant to be more humorous than informative, but long-time Godzilla fans who have a soft-spot for Minilla will enjoy seeing the character again in any form of media.
