Cult Classic Shooter ‘Powerslave’ Added to GOG.com; Upcoming Remaster Announced

Horror

If you’ve been keeping track of Nightdive Studios, a few years back, the studio had filed a trademark for Powerslave aka Exhumed, a first-person shooter developed by Lobotomy Software back in the mid 90s that sadly got lost in the Duke Nukem 3D and Quake craze. Well, not only now has the original game been released on GOG.com, but Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick and Throwback Entertainment have spilled the beans on an upcoming Enhanced Version of the game!

While details are still under wraps, when pressed by fans, Kick did say that the plan is to work with the original console and PC versions of the game, since they’re completely different. In case you’re unaware (and haven’t checked out the superb documentary on Powerslave by YouTuber Tatsu Mainframe), Lobotomy Software was forced to use Duke Nukem 3D‘s Build Engine when porting Powerslave to the PC, resulting in some changes to the original game, along with a new ending.

And, in case you’ve never played Powerslave, the story goes that in the ancient Egyptian city of Karnak in the late 20th century, alien forces have seized the city. A crack team of soldiers is sent to the valley of Karnak to uncover what happened. However, your helicopter is shot down, and you’re left to battle the aliens, who are seeking to resurrect the ancient Egyptian pharaoh King Ramses and use his powers to control the world.
