Peter Stormare Suggests a ‘Constantine’ Sequel in the Works?

Horror

We don’t come bearing any official confirmation on this one but for what it’s worth, Constantine actor Peter Stormare took to Instagram today to tease… Constantine 2?!

Stormare, who memorably played Satan in the Francis Lawrence-directed 2005 film, shared an image praising his performance in the movie today, along with the caption:

“Sequel in the Works.”

Not surprisingly, fans of the Keanu Reeves-starring DC adaptation have exploded with excitement about this one, but right about now we have nothing tangible to go on here beyond Stormare’s Instagram post. And while we’re taking this one with a grain of salt for the time being, it’s at least worth noting that we know Reeves has been excited to return to the role.

Reeves told Variety last year, “I’ve always wanted to play John Constantine again. I just love that world, too, and I love that character. I just had a blast playing the character.”

It’s also worth noting that we had learned earlier this year that J.J. Abrams was working on a “Justice League Dark” series for HBO Max, which presumably would feature John Constantine. Additionally, it had been rumored shortly thereafter that Abrams was also working on a Constantine solo film, though those rumors remain unconfirmed at this time.

With 2005’s Constantine amassing a fan following over the years and Keanu Reeves’s career currently hotter than ever thanks to the John Wick movies, it would make sense that DC would be interested in returning to that iteration of the character versus hitting the reboot button completely. But it’s unclear at this time precisely what Stormare is referring to today.

Here’s hoping it’s not just wishful thinking on his part. We’ll keep you posted.

Constantine is an exorcist and occult detective who actively hunts supernatural entities. Matt Ryan most recently brought the character to the small screen in 2014 with NBC’s short-lived “Constantine.” He has continued to play him in various other live action & animated projects.
