Poison Ivy’s Proposal To Harley Quinn Was The Sweetest In Comics

Movies

Long-time fans of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have shipped the couple ever since the two first started expressing romantic interest during Batman: The Animated Series. In more modern times, the two have become one of DC’s most popular couples. Bringing fan predictions to life, the two officially tied the knot in the Injustice: Year Zero, cementing them as the perfect friends-to-lovers progression. Fans may have seen the marriage coming, but none of them were ready for such a sweet proposal from the typically harsh Poison Ivy. The two have always aimed to stand out in their actions, and they may have risen above the rest as far as romance for this moment.

The impromptu Las Vegas wedding perfectly fits both Harley and Ivy’s style. No mission involving the two lacks in endearing chaos, and their marriage is no different. Confessing her wish to spend their lives together, regardless of the mayhem that will surely occur, Ivy presents Harley with a ring within a beautiful rose. She calls Harley by her original name, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, as she proposes. Of course, Harley enthusiastically agrees, and the two celebrate with an Elvis-officiated, family-filled wedding.

This issue added Harley and Ivy to the trailblazing list of other LGBTQ+ trailblazing couples from the DC universe. They join the ranks alongside another fan-favorite heroine, Batwoman. The 2013 issue Batwoman #17 concludes with Kathy Kane (aka Batwoman) proposing to her girlfriend, Maggie Sawyer. For the time, this proposal was especially groundbreaking, as lesbians have not historically held much of the spotlight within comics. However, the engagement did not go exactly how fans would have liked.

The moment is up there with one of the most iconic DC proposals, Batman and Catwoman. Considered one of comic’s strongest and most dynamic relationships, fans had awaited their marriage ever since Catwoman’s first appearance in the 1940 issue Batman #1. He confirms his undying love for the villain in Batman #24, breaking away from his dark, broody persona to create a dramatically romantic moment for his future fiancé. This proposal, competing for the sweetest in DC history, is yet another moment that proves no one does romance like DC.

While the engagements of heroes and villains alike are nothing new to DC comics, the one between Ivy and Harley may indefinitely reign as the universe’s most iconic proposal. This relationship has been a long time in the making, leaving fans wondering when the two may finally commit to each other. DC has done a lot of work improving their LGBTQ+ representation, and creating a WLW wedding between such iconic characters certainly marks a great deal of progress. While their relationship has been, and will most likely remain to be, nothing if not turbulent, the experience of seeing them in such a romantic, loving light will most likely remain in the memories of fans for years to come.
